In defense industry, the environmental conditions play very critical and dangerous roles for valuable and sensitive electronic equipments. One of the most dangerous situations is high level shocks caused by explosions. In order to protect the valuable assets from the dangerous effects of shock some special designed shock absorbers are needed. For some shock absorbing cases, standards products manufactured according to the Military Standards are used and their implementation is considerable easy. Helical, wire rope springs and dampers directly attached onto the platforms can be given as an example of that systems. On the other hand, according to the device specifications and its working principle, some special and custom designed shock absorbing systems are required. Shock absorbing platform of naval radars mounted on the ship structure is one example of this custom shock absorbers. At the same approach land and air radars use special absorbing methods. In this thesis, a 3-dof translational shock absorbing parallel manipulator for radar systems is introduced and analyzed in terms of kinematics and dynamics by using rigid body assumption. For that purpose, a parallel manipulator which has only 3 translational degrees of freedom is selected among three candidates and shock absorbing elements (spring, damper) are implemented on it. This special shock absorbing platform is analyzed dynamically according to shock criteria given in MIL-STD 810F

In the aerospace industry, systems, subsystems, and units are exposed toexplosive events during their lifecycle. Any explosive event creates shock in the structure, and it propagates until it is damped. This shock wave may be hazardous for some electronic and optical components. It may damage a component and cause failure in the equipment. For this reason, satellite equipmenthas tobe qualifiedto withstand all static and dynamic loads encountered during launch and operational life. Thus, one of ...

With the rapid development in the electronics industry, the thermal management of high power density elec-tronic products (HPDEPs) has become very important and requires innovative heat removal technologies. In this study, an integrated heat sink (IHS) fabricated by combining aluminum foam and pin-finned heat sink config-urations that are frequently used in the cooling of electronic products has been proposed as an effective solution for the thermal management of HPDEPs. The heat removal and pressure drop c...

Computationally efficient screening and forecasting tools can offer faster decision-making and value- creation opportunities for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) operations without requiring a high-fidelity reservoir model. In this paper, we present a data-driven modeling approach utilizing numerical models and neural networks (ANN) to screen EOR methods in a rapid way. Numerical modeling is employed to generate the data for the training of the neural-network based data-driven model. It is aimed to develop compr...

Accurate and convenient detection of explosive components is vital for a wide spectrum of applications ranging from national security and demilitarization to environmental monitoring and restoration. With the increasing use of DNAN as. a replacement for 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) in insensitive explosive formulations, there has been a growing interest in strategies to minimize its release and to understand and predict its behavior in the environment. Consequently, a convenient tool. for its detection and d...
Development of strain monitoring system for glass fiber reinforced composites via embedded electrically conductive pathways
Tanabi, Hamed; Erdal Erdoğmuş, Merve (Informa UK Limited, 2019-06-15)
Among numerous types of health-monitoring and damage-sensing sensors that can be integrated into composites, electrically conductive sensors offer a simple, cost-effective, and durable option for structural health monitoring in fiber reinforced composites. In this study, a novel approach is introduced to create electrical conductive networks in glass fiber reinforced composites. For this purpose, hollow micro-channels are generated using vaporization of sacrificial components (VaSCs) which are subsequently ...
