In hot forging, die wear is the main cause of failure. In this paper, the wear analysis of a closed hot forging die used at the final stage of a component has been realized. The simulation of forging process was carried out by commercially available software based on finite volume method and the depth of wear was evaluated with a constant wear coefficient. By comparing the numerical results with the measurement taken from the worn die, the wear coefficient has been evaluated for different points of the die surface and finally a value of wear coefficient is suggested.

Wear analysis of hot forging dies

The service lives of dies in forging processes are to a large extent limited by wear, fatigue fracture and plastic deformation, etc. In hot forging processes, wear is the predominant factor in the operating lives of dies. In this study, the wear analysis of a closed die at the final stage of a hot forging process has been realized. The preform geometry of the part to be forged was measured by Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), and the CAD model of the die and the worn die were provided by the particular fo...
Shock failure analysis of metallic structures by using strain energy density method
Çelik, Mehmet; Mercimek, Ümit; Kadıoğlu, Fevzi Suat (2014-01-01)
Failure of metallic structures operating under shock loading is a common occurrence in engineering applications. It is difficult to estimate the response of complicated systems analytically, due to structure's dynamic characteristics and varying loadings. Therefore, experimental, numerical, or a combination of both methods is used for evaluations. In this study, test pieces made of two different materials are subjected to shock loads stemming from firing of a Gatling gun. Strain measurements are made, and f...
Modelling of variable friction in cold forging
Cora, Oe N.; Akkök, Metin; Darendeliler, Haluk (2008-11-01)
In metal forming operations, the friction between die and workpiece is a complex phenomenon and has a strong influence on the metal forming parameters and the product quality This study aims to investigate the effect of friction in cold forging operations using different friction models. In the analyses, the forging operations are simulated using the Coulomb and constant friction models, and the results are compared with the simulation results obtained by using the variable friction models developed by Wanh...

Tuncer, Erturk; Binici, Barış; Canbay, Erdem (2021-05-01)
Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRPs) have advantages such as lightness, high strength, and suppressing corrosion risk. There is a vast amount of research on the FRP strengthening of reinforced concrete elements. However, the behavior of FRP bonded Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) beams has not been extensively investigated in the past. In this study, several experiments were conducted to explore the performance of FRP bonded AAC beams. In this scope, unidirectional single layer carbon and glass fiber laminates...
