A microcrinoid-sized eucladid crinoid (Eucladida Wright, 2017) is described from the Yiginli Formation (Devonian, Famennian) in the Buyuk Zap Anticline in the Hakkari region of SE Turkey. Compared to other eucladids of similar size, the Yiginli Formation specimen is at a quite advanced morphological stage with arms present through at least the secundibrachials. Early post-larval development is a key for understanding homologies among crinoid clades; however Paleozoic crinoids in the microcrinoid range (<= 2.0 mm) are very rare. This specimen is either at a very advanced developmental stage for its size, or typical microcrinoids are neotenic.

Early-Middle Triassic echinoderm remains from the Istranca Massif, Turkey
Hagdorn, Hans; Göncüoğlu, Mehmet Cemal (2007-01-01)
In the northwestern part of the Istranca Massif close to the Turkish-Bulgarian border, recrystallized limestones above germanotype fluvial clastics (Buntsandstein-equivalents) yielded remains of echinoderms and bivalves. The limestones are lensoidal, flaser-bedded and bioturbated, like the Holocrinus lagerstatten, which are common in the germanotype Muschelkalk. The sufficiently preserved crinoid ossicles can be assigned to genus Holocrinus, a crinoid clade that occurs worldwide in Early and Middle Triassic...
New Araucarian Conifer from the Late Cretaceous (Campanian-Maastrichtian) of Southeastern Turkey
Kvacek, Jiri; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Hosgor, Izzet; Mendes, Mario Miguel (University of Chicago Press, 2019-07-01)
A new fossil conifer Araucaria rothwellii J.Kvaek from the Campanian-Maastrichtian marine sediments of the Bozova Formation in southeastern Turkey is described based on leaf compressions and leaf impressions. The new species is characterized by twigs possessing helically arranged broadly lanceolate leaves with attenuate apexes and slightly narrowed bases. Amphistomatic leaves bear stomata arranged in rows surrounded by four to six subsidiary cells; the rows are longitudinal to the leaf margin. Ordinary epid...
THE AYLI DAG OPHIOLITE SEQUENCE (CENTRAL-NORTHERN TURKEY): A FRAGMENT OF MIDDLE JURASSIC OCEANIC LITHOSPHERE WITHIN THE INTRA-PONTIDE SUTURE ZONE
Göncüoğlu, Mehmet Cemal; Sayıt, Kaan; Ottria, Giuseppe; Pandolfi, Luca; Ellero, Alessandro (2012-12-01)
The Ayli Dag ophiolites occur as an independent tectonic unit within the Intra-Pontide suture zone, central-northern Turkey. They crop out, together with the other units of the Intra-Pontide suture zone, at the top of the Late Cretaceous-Middle Paleocene foredeep sediments of the Sakarya Terrane. The Ayli Dag ophiolites sequence include in its lower part a mantle sequence consisting of not less than 2-3 km-thick peridotites, topped by 500-600 m-thick layered gabbros with alternating, dm- to m-thick layers o...
First record of late Campanian paieoceanographic and paieociimatic changes, Arabian platform, Mazidag-Mardin area, SE Turkey
Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Altıner, Sevinç; Kvacek, Jiri (2021-03-01)
The sedimentology, geochemistry and paleontology of the pelagic upper Campanian Maastrichtian Bozova Formation in the "Mazidag" (Mazidagi) - Mardin area, SE Turkey, reveal paleoceanographic and paleoecological changes for the first time. A 119.25 m -thick composite stratigraphic section is characterized by alternating marls, clayey limestones, shales, and black shales; no coarse siliciclastic admixture or turbidite intercalations were recorded in the section. Biostratigraphic data indicate the presence of t...
Late Cretaceous stratigraphy in the Mudurnu-Goynuk Basin (Turkey) and inferences on sea-level change in the Late Campanian to Early Maastrichtian
Wolfgring, Erik; Wagreich, Michael; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Liu Shasha, Liu Shasha; Boehm, Katharina (Geological Society of London, 2020-01-01)
Upper Cretaceous strata at Goynuk, northwestern Anatolia, Turkey, provide a geological record of the Campanian-Maastrichtian from the Sakarya Terrane along the active Neotethys margin. Shales and shaly marls with siliciclastic and volcaniclastic intercalations indicate a pelagic palaeoenvironment rich in planktonic and benthonic foraminifera and calcareous nannofossil assemblages. A composite record from the Campanian to the Maastrichtian records nannofossil standard zones UC15c (CC21) to UC20a (CC26) as we...
