The Neogene-Quaternary Central Anatolian Volcanic Province (CAVP) is elongated in a north-east south-west direction within pre-Oligocene basement in central Turkey. This study investigates the field evidence relating to the development of the CAVP.

Tectono-Sedimentary evolution and geochronology of the Middle Miocene Altinapa Basin, and implications for the Late Cenozoic uplift history of the Taurides, southern Turkey
KOÇ, AYTEN; Kaymakcı, Nuretdin; van Hinsbergen, Douwe J. J.; Kuiper, Klaudia F.; Vissers, Reinoud L. M. (2012-04-06)
The Tauride range in southern Turkey is flanked and overlain by Neogene sedimentary basins. To the south and on top of the high range, these basins are mainly marine, whereas poorly studied intramontane basins dominated by continental deposits are exposed to the north. In this paper, we study the stratigraphy and structure of the continental Altinapa Basin, and provide Ar-40/Ar-39 geochronology for volcanic deposits in the stratigraphy. The stratigraphy can be subdivided into a Lower Group, displaying simil...
Strike-slip neotectonic regime and related structures in the Cappadocia region: a case study in the Salanda basin, Central Anatolia, Turkey
Kocyigit, Ali; DOĞAN, UĞUR (2016-01-01)
The study area is a strike-slip basin of approximately 1-9 km wide, 66 km long and N65 degrees W trending, located between the historical Kesikkopru in the west and the Sarihidir settlement in the east along the northern side of the Central Anatolian Volcanic Province. It was evolved on a regional erosional surface of a pre-Quaternary volcanosedimentary sequence during Quaternary. This is evidenced by the stratigraphical, structural, and seismic data. The total amounts of throw and dextral strike-slip displ...
Vermiculitization of phlogopite in Metagabbro, central Turkey
Toksoy Köksal, Fatma; Göncüoğlu, Mehmet Cemal (2001-02-01)
Dioctahedral vermiculite occurs in an isolated metagabbro klippe (Kurancali Metagabbro) that belongs to the Central Anatolian Ophiolites from central Turkey. Both the metagabbro and the structurally underlying high-grade metamorphic rocks are intruded by granitic rocks. The Kurancali Metagabbro is characterized by its well-developed compositional layering, and the presence of vermiculitized phlogopite rich layers. Petrographic and mineralogic studies show that the primary mineral phases in the host rock are...
Tectono-stratigraphic and thermal evolution of the haymana basin, Central Anatolia, Turkey
Gülyüz, Erhan; Kaymakcı, Nuretdin; Department of Geological Engineering (2015)
The Haymana Basin is located on the southernmost tip of the Central Pontides and straddles between the İzmir-Ankara-Erzincan Suture Zone at the north and Intra-Tauride Suture Zone at the south. These suture zones designate the former positions of various branches of the Neotethys Ocean in Turkey, the basins evolved within these zones record the progressive closure of the Neotethys and the collision between Taurides, Kırşehir Block and Pontides during late Cretaceous to Eocene time interval. The Haymana Basi...
Tectono-stratigraphic evolution of the continental miocene basins in Southwest Anatolia
Koç, Ayten; Kaymakcı, Nuretdin; Van Hinsbergen, Douwe J. J.; Department of Geological Engineering (2013)
The Tauride range in southern Turkey is flanked and overlain by Neogene sedimentary basins. To the south and on top of the high range, these basins are mainly marine, whereas poorly studied intra-montane basins dominated by continental deposits are exposed to the north. In this study, the stratigraphy and structure of these continental basins which includes Altınapa, Yalvaç and Ilgın Basins are studied. Their stratigraphy of these basins displays poorly expressed fining upwards sequences of fluvio-lacustrin...
