Analysis and design of cylindrically conformal microstrip antennas
Taşoğlu, Ali Özgür; Dural Ünver, Mevlüde Gülbin; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2011)
Cylindrically conformal microstrip antennas are investigated. Two different structures, namely proximity coupled and E-shaped microstrip antennas are analyzed and information about the design parameters is obtained by means of parametric study. With these structures, cylindrical arrays, having omnidirectional radiation in the circumferential plane of the cylinder, are designed. Proximity coupled cylindrical arrays operate in the 2.3-2.4 GHz aeronautical telemetry band with approximately 4% bandwidth. On the...
Investigation of Electromagnetic Energy Harvesting by Using Fractal Antenna
Ozdemir, Huriye; Nesimoglu, Tayfun (2017-06-24)
Microwave energy harvesting has the potential to power low powered electronic micro systems. Here we propose a fractal antenna topology that may be used for the conversion of microwave energy into usable DC power. The design of a broadband antenna that uses fractal approach is investigated. Simulation results demonstrate that improvements may be obtained in bandwidth and gain characteristics of planar antennas by using fractal approach.
Rigorous optimizations of three dimensional antenna arrays using full wave simulations
Onol, Can; Gokce, Ozer; Boyacı, Huseyın; Ergül, Özgür Salih (null; 2015-07-09)
We present optimizations of three-dimensional antenna arrays using heuristic techniques coupled with the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA). Without resorting to any periodicity and infinity assumptions, antenna arrays are modeled with surface integral equations and simulated via MLFMA, which also enables the analysis of arrays with non-identical elements. Genetic algorithms and particle swarm optimization methods are employed on the complex data produced by MLFMA in phasor domain to find optimal s...
An Investigation of beam scanning of arrays on cylindrical, conical and spherical surfaces
Takak, Yücel; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2015)
Recently, wide angle scanning antennas are often required especially in many radar applications. It is known that planar arrays have limited scan range without beam deformation. In this study design and production steps for wide angle scanning antenna arrays conformed on cylindrical, conical and spherical surfaces that operate at X-Band are investigated. Antenna elements used in these conformal arrays are designed using full wave electromagnetic solver tool HFSS. A MATLAB code for obtaining array patterns i...
Beam Steerable Traveling Wave Meander Line Antenna Using Varactor Diode for X-Band Applications
Gokalp, Nihan; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem (2008-07-11)
This paper presents a novel beam steerable meander line antenna with varactor diode for X-band applications. Beam steering has been achieved by loading the arms of the meander line antenna with varactor diodes. The capacitances of the varactor diodes have been controlled by DC bias voltage. Instead of varactor diodes, RF-MEMS variable capacitances can be used to scan the beam. Since the insertion loss of MEMS capacitances are small compared to loss of varactor diodes, use of MEMS capacitors will increase th...
