MFI and SAPO-34 type zeolite membranes were prepared on tubular alumina supports in a recirculating flow system at elevated temperatures and reported for the first time in the literature. During membrane synthesis, the synthesis mixture flowed between the reservoir and the membrane module, which includes the membrane support. The highest synthesis temperatures were 180 degrees C and 220 degrees C, and the corresponding system pressures were approximately 20 and 30 bar for MFI and SAPO-34, respectively. The best performing MFI membrane had a CH4 single gas permeance of 2.8 x 10(-7) mol/m(2) s Pa and CH4/n-C4H10 ideal selectivity of 24 at 25 degrees C. The n-C4H10/CH4 separation selectivity was 43.6 with n-C4H10 permeance of 8 x 10(-7) mol/m(2) s Pa at 25 degrees C. The ideal selectivities of CO2/CH4 of SAPO-34 membranes synthesized at 220 and 200 degrees C in an autoclave without flow were 227 and >1000, respectively. However, the membranes synthesized by flow-induced crystallization exhibit CO2/CH4 ideal selectivities of less than 10. Effect of Gas Diffusion Layer Characteristics and Addition of Pore-Forming Agents on the Performance of Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells
Senguel, Erce; Erkan, Serdar; Eroğlu, İnci; BAÇ, NURCAN (Informa UK Limited, 2009-01-01)
The performance of five layer membrane electrode assemblies having different characteristics of gas diffusion layers was determined at 70 degrees C cell temperature and ambient pressure. The maximum power density at 0.6 V was 0.36 W/cm(2) for the membrane electrode assembly prepared with the gas diffusion layer having minimum thickness (SGL BC 30 type). On the other hand, the maximum power density at 0.5 V was 0.44 W/cm(2) for the membrane electrode assembly prepared with SGL BC 34 type gas diffusion layer....
Vulcan-Supported Pt Electrocatalysts for PEMFCs Prepared using Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Deposition
Bayrakceken, Ayse; Smirnova, Alevtina; Kitkamthorn, Usanee; Aindow, Mark; Tuerker, Lemi; Eroğlu, İnci; ERKEY, CAN (Informa UK Limited, 2009-01-01)
In this study, supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO(2)) deposition was used to prepare vulcan-supported Pt (Pt/Vulcan) electrocatalysts for proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), and the effects of process variables on the properties of the electrocatalysts were investigated. The two different methods used to reduce the organometallic precursor were thermal reduction in nitrogen at atmospheric pressure and thermal reduction in scCO(2). In the former method, the maximum Pt loading achieved was 9%, and t...
Synthesis of alpha-Fe2O3/TiO2 heterogeneous composites by the sol-gel process and their photocatalytic activity
Bouziani, Asmae; PARK, JONGEE; Öztürk, Abdullah (Elsevier BV, 2020-09-01)
alpha-Fe2O3/TiO2 heterogeneous composites were synthesized by the sol-gel process to increase the photocatalytic activity of TiO2. The structural, morphological, and optical characteristics of the composites were determined by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. Results revealed that the incorporation of alpha-Fe2O3 to TiO2 widened the visible light absorption ability of TiO2. It was realized that the calcination temperature plays a crucial role in m...

Thin zeolite membranes of MFI type were prepared on alpha-Al2O3 supports by midsynthesis addition of silica in a recirculating flow system at 95 degrees C The synthesis was started with the batch composition of 80SiO(2): 30TPAOH:1500H(2)O which was changed to 80SiO(2)center dot 9TPAOH:1500H(2)O by addition of silica Mkt 24, 48, or 72 h Compared to synthesis at constant composition. it is possible to affect the rates of nucleation and crystal growth to obtain membranes with better quality by changing the ove...
EVALUATION OF SECOND VIRIAL COEFFICIENTS FROM SATURATION DATA
Orbey, H.; Orbey, N. (Informa UK Limited, 1989-3)
A data reduction technique is introduced for the evaluation of second virial coefficients of gases at subcritical temperatures. The method makes use of the vapor-liquid equilibrium data, i.e., temperature, saturation pressure, liquid and vapor molar volumes and can be used to obtain second virial coefficients of a wide variety of fluids including polar, associating and quantum gases. The calculated second virial coefficients are in good agreement with their counterparts from literature, which are obtained f...
