A Quality Function Deployment (QFD) approach to improve industrial engineering (IE) education quality at the Middle East Technical University (METU) is presented. Major stakeholders of IE education are identified as students, faculty members and future employers of the students. Requirements of these groups from an IE graduate are determined by surveys and interviews with them. These requirements are prioritized. Main education requirements are identified to meet the stakeholders' requirements. Finally, the results and plans for future studies are given.

The civil engineering education at the middle east technical university
Çokça, Erdal (null; 2005-01-01)
This paper reports the status of the Civil Engineering Department and the Civil Engineering undergraduate and graduate programs of the Middle East Technical University (METU). Information about: program objectives, admission process for students, evaluation and advising, undergraduate curriculum, laboratory and computer experience for students, student exchange, graduate programs, faculty, personnel and facilities are given in this paper.
Structural design, analysis and composite manufacturing applications for a tactical unmanned air vehicle
Soysal, Sercan; Kayran, Altan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2008)
In this study structural design, analysis and composite manufacturing applications for a tactical UAV, which was designed and manufactured in Aerospace Engineering Department of Middle East Technical University (METU), is introduced. In order to make an accurate structural analysis, the material and loading is modeled properly. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was used to determine the 3D pressure distribution around the wing and then the nodal forces were exported into the finite element program by means...
Vision and Strategic Planning of University Governance
Köksal, Gülser (2017-11-14)
This chapter describes the participative and iterative strategic planning process that was used in Middle East Technical University (METU), as a “good practice” for other institutions of higher education in two major stages: (1) preparation of the strategic plan and (2) its deployment to all organizational units via a catch-ball approach. Both stages are iterative as they involve consecutive phases of collection, evaluation, sharing, and alignment of findings along with strategies, first among different str...
Optimization Of Product Design Through Quality Function Deployment And Analytical Hierarchy Process: Case Study Of A Ceramic Washbasin
Erkarslan, Önder; Yılmaz, Hande (Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, 2011)
Quality Function deployment (QFD) is a useful method for optimizing products which can be applied during the design process as well as in the postproduction process for further developments and revisions. This paper aims at examining the applicability of QFD and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to incorporate customer expectations and design quality into the product through a case study on a ceramic washbasin (1). In the first phase of the study customer needs and satisfaction are surveyed based on the curr...
Evaluation of basic design education at METU department of industrial design
Bayırlı, Ümit; Özgen Koçyıldırım, Dalsu; Department of Industrial Design (2015)
Basic Design is a crucial course for design education. This course is offered in the first year to initiate students to the theory, practice and communication of design and to lay a basis on which more advanced and specialized knowledge will be gathered throughout the rest of their design education and careers. However, the course's results, influence in design education and methods of conduct receives many criticisms from students, educators, designers and researchers. Even though the course plays a foundi...
