In this work, we present a web service composition system that provides an environment for specifying the now model of the composite service and the user's constraints on the composite service. We adopt our previous work on workflow modeling and scheduling under resource allocation constraints for web service composition and extend it with service discovery functionalities. In modeling the composite service, the system guides the user for selecting the relevant service types. In both guiding functionality and the service discovery phase, ontology-based semantic information of the services is utilized.

Verifiable web services with hierarchical interfaces
Betin Can, Aysu (2005-07-15)
We propose an Hierarchical State Machine (HSM) model for specifying behavioral interfaces of peers participating in a composite web service. We integrate the HSM model to a design pattern which is supported by a modular verification technique that can 1) statically analyze the properties about global interactions of a composite web service and 2) check the conformance of the Java implementations of the participant peers to their interfaces. We extend the synchronizability analysis to HSMs to efficiently ide...
QoS-A ware service selection for web service composition
Abdyldaeva, Rahat; Betin Can, Aysu; Koçyiğit, Altan; Department of Information Systems (2012)
Composition of web services is one of the flexible and easiest approaches for creating composite services that fulfill complex tasks. Together with providing convenience in creation of new software applications, service composition has various challenges. One of them is the satisfaction of user-defined Quality of Service (QoS) requirements while selecting services for a composition. Load balancing issue is another challenge as uncontrolled workload may lead to violation of service providers’ QoS declaration...
Using semantic information for distributed web service discovery
Cantürk, Deniz; Karagöz, Pınar (2011-01-01)
With the increase in number and size of service registries, web service discovery becomes a challenging activity. There is also tremendous increase in the number of web services that are not registered to any of the business registries. Under these conditions, finding an appropriate web service may lead to problems in terms of performance, efficiency, end-to-end security and quality of the discovered services. Use of semantic information has been studied in web service discovery for improving the accuracy o...
Automatic QoS evaluation method for web services
Aşkaroğlu, Emra; Karagöz, Pınar (2012-07-04)
In this work, we propose a new QoS evaluation method for web services. The proposed method aims to keep track of web services in terms of QoS parameters and to generate QoS values automatically when necessary. It is realized as a part of a Web service discovery system that is a collection of domain specific service discovery nodes.
Automated Web Services Composition with the Event Calculus
Aydin, Onur; Çiçekli, Fehime Nihan; Cicekli, Ilyas (2007-10-24)
As the web services proliferate and complicate it is becoming an overwhelming job to manually prepare the web service compositions which describe the communication and integration between web services. This paper analyzes the usage of the Event Calculus, which is one of the logical action-effect definition languages, for the automated preparation and execution of web service compositions. In this context, abductive planning capabilities of the Event Calculus are utilized. It is shown that composite process ...
