We present a novel method to characterize the radiation pattern of the terahertz photoconductive antennas in time-domain. The method uses a modified version of the terahertz time-domain spectroscopy system, where we use the basics of physical optics and the optical path compensation principle using the delay line in the system in order to detect the spatial distribution of the terahertz radiation of the photoconductive antennas in two major planes. Using this method, we investigate two terahertz photoconductive antennas, namely dipole and spiral antennas, and compare the measurement results with simulations in time-domain. The comparison of the calculation and measurement results shows good agreement, where we measure an average and maximum optical path difference error of 4.7 and 8%, which results in an average and maximum half-power beam width error of 1.87 and 3.2 degrees, respectively. We believe that the proposed method will be useful for predicting the system level performance of the terahertz time-domain spectroscopy systems in real-life applications.

Frequency Selective Characteristics of a Plasma Layer with Sinusoidally Varying Electron Density Profile
GÜREL, ÇİĞDEM SEÇKİN; Oencue, Emrah (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2009-06-01)
In this study reflection, absorbtion and transmission characteristics of a plasma layer having sinusoidally varying electron number density are analysed. In the analysis, plasma layer is divided into thin subslabs with constant electron number densities. The general frequency selective behavior of the plasma is investigated by varying the plasma parameters, external magnetic field excitation and sinusoidal electron distribution in order to be used in recent plasma applications.
Time reconstruction and performance of the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (IOP Publishing, 2010-03-01)
The resolution and the linearity of time measurements made with the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter are studied with samples of data from test beam electrons, cosmic rays, and beam-produced muons. The resulting time resolution measured by lead tungstate crystals is better than 100 ps for energy deposits larger than 10 GeV. Crystal-to-crystal synchronization with a precision of 500 ps is performed using muons produced with the first LHC beams in 2008.
BIOLOGICAL APPLICATIONS OF TERAHERTZ TIME-DOMAIN ATTENUATED TOTAL REFLECTION SPECTROSCOPY
Gelgeç, Melis; Altan, Hakan; Department of Physics (2022-8-25)
In this thesis, a Terahertz Attenuated Total Reflection Time Domain Spectroscopy (THz ATR-TDS) system was constructed to measure biological media. The constructed system driven by a Yb:doped mode-locked fiber laser had a limited bandwidth of about 0.3 THz. This bandwidth limited the analysis of various samples in the frequency domain. To overcome this limitation a method was developed so that the samples can be analyzed in the time-domain. Oral soft tissue samples collected were used in order to demonstrate...
Pattern reconfigurable antenna designs insub-6 ghz band for 5g applications
Çelik, Feza Turgay; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem; Alatan, Lale; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2021-2-08)
In this thesis, design, simulations, fabrication, and radiation pattern measurementsof reconfigurable antennas for sub-6GHz application of 5G protocol are presented. Modeanalysis techniquesand array theory areemployed to have anunderstanding ofthe pattern reconfigurability conceptof the designs. As a first step, adual-fed rectangular patch antenna is designed, simulated, fabricated, and then measured. Even and odd mode definitions onthe rectangular patch antennas are employed in the design pr...
Temperature cycling of MOS-based radiation sensors
Yilmaz, Ercan; Turan, Raşit (Elsevier BV, 2008-01-15)
We have studied dosimetric characteristics, linearity and performance of MOS structures as radiation sensors. This was performed by analyzing the correlation between irradiation dose and the shift in flat band voltage of MOS capacitors which were tested against gamma and beta radiations. Devices have been studied after repeated cycles of irradiation and annealing treatment under hydrogen and nitrogen ambient. Each cycle consists of gamma irradiation with 60 Gray-dose and an anneal at 200 degrees C for 30 mi...
