The effects of mixing sequence of the polyether polyol and curing agent (triethylenetetramine) on mechanical and thermal properties and morphology of epoxy/polyether polyol/organoclay ternary nanocomposites are investigated in this study. The polyether polyol domain size data are relatively unchanged with mixing order both in epoxy/polyether polyol blends and in ternary nanocomposites. Generally, impact strength data of the ternary nanocomposites prepared by the second addition order are higher than the ones produced by the first addition order. Flexural strength and strain at break may be accepted as unaltered generally for the ternary nanocomposites with respect to addition order. Except for the sample containing 3 wt-% Cloisite(R) 30B and 3 wt. % polyether polyol, flexural modulus data are close to each other in ternary nanocomposites. The highest flexural modulus is obtained for the 5 wt-% Cloisite(R) 30B and 3 wt-% polyether polyol sample prepared by the second addition order, as 2978 +/- 27 MPa.

Synthesis, characterization and electrochromic properties of copolymer of terephthalic acid bis-(thiophen-3-yl-methyl) thioester with thiophene
Turkarslan, O; Erden, A; Sahin, E; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Informa UK Limited, 2006-01-01)
Terephthalic acid bis-(thiophen-3-yl-methyl thioester) (TTMT) was synthesized via the reaction of thiophen-3-yl methanethiol with terephthaloyl dichloride. Nuclear magnetic resonance ( H-1-NMR) spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy were utilized for the characterization of the monomer. Electrochemical copolymerization of TTMT with thiophene in acetonitrile/boron trifluoride diethyl etherate (AN/BFEE) (8:2, v/v) solvent mixture was realized by using tetrabutylammonium tetrafluorobor...
Effect of ZnO type and concentration on the mophology, thermal, and mechanical properties of poly(ether ester)/ZnO composites
ÇELEBİ, HANDE; Bayram, Göknur; DOĞAN, AYDIN (Wiley, 2013-09-15)
Poly(ether ester) (PEE) copolymers were synthesized in a two-stage process involving transesterification and polycondensation. The synthesized copolymer and the zinc oxide (ZnO) were used in composite preparation by melt compounding. The influence of ZnO type and concentration on the morphology, thermal and mechanical properties of the composites were studied. DSC and XRD analyses indicated that crystallinity of composites was slightly reduced with ZnO content. Homogeneous dispersion of fillers in the polym...
Effects of pH, Initiator, Scavenger, and Surfactant on the Ozonation Mechanism of an Azo Dye (Acid Red-151) in a Batch Reactor
Oezbelge, Tuelay A.; Erol, Funda (Informa UK Limited, 2009-01-01)
In this study, an initiator (Fe2+) and a scavenger (CO32(-)) were used at different concentrations in a batch reactor to investigate the reaction mechanism of ozonation of a model azo dye, namely Acid Red-151 (AR-151). Also, the effect of a nonionic surfactant known as a major pollutant in many industrial wastewaters, namely polyethylene glycol (PEG), was observed on the degradation rate of AR-151. The experimental parameters and their ranges were: pH (2.5-10), initiator (0.8-50mg/L of Fe2+), surfactant (10...
Effects of nucleating agent and processing conditions on the mechanical, thermal, and optical properties of biaxially oriented polypropylene films
Yuksekkalayci, C; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Orbey, N (Wiley, 1999-07-01)
The effects of nucleating agent, temperature of crystallization, and degree of machine direction (MD) orientation on the mechanical, optical, and thermal properties of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films were investigated. Addition of nucleating agent improved only the initial tear resistance in the MD; however, the other mechanical and optical properties did not change appreciably. Ln the set of experiments in which the crystallization temperature was increased, the degree of crystallinity also i...
Contribution of Nanoclays to the Performance of Traditional Flame Retardants in ABS
Ozkaraca, Ayse Cagil; Kaynak, Cevdet (Wiley, 2012-03-01)
The purpose of this study was to investigate contribution of nanoclays to the flame retardancy performance of a traditional brominated flame retardant compound with various combinations of antimony trioxide and zinc borate. The matrix polymer acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) was compounded by melt mixing in a laboratory size twin-screw extruder. X-ray diffraction analysis and transmission electron microscopy revealed that nanoclay silicate layers were mainly intercalated with certain level of exfoliati...
