lambda-transition of NH4Cl and ND4Cl at high pressures

2007-07-01
We predict in this study using the mean-field theory, the phase-line equation from the free energy expanded in terms of the order parameters of solid II and III phases of NH4Cl and ND4Cl close to the X-phase transitions at high pressures. Using the temperature and pressure dependence of the coefficients given in the phase-line equation, it is shown that the experimentally observed T-P phase diagram for the solid II-solid III transition, can be predicted from the mean field model studied here for both crystalline structures. Critical behaviour of the polarization, tilt angle, electric susceptibility and the specific heat close to the SmA-ferroelectric SmC (SmC*) phase transitions
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit; Kilit, E. (Informa UK Limited, 2006-01-01)
This study gives the temperature dependence of the two order parameters, namely, polarization P and the tilt angle theta, when there is a biquadratic coupling P-2 theta(2) in the expansion of the Landau free energy. This applies to the electric-field-induced SmA-Ferro-Electric SmC (SmC*) phase transition. From this expansion of the Landau free energy in terms of the polarization and the tilt angle, we obtain the temperature dependence of the electric susceptibility chi and the electric field dependence of t...
Molecular-dynamics simulations of surface and bulk properties of Zn, Cd, and ZnCd systems
Amirouche, L; Erkoç, Şakir (Wiley, 2004-02-01)
Surface and bulk properties of Zn, Cd, and ZnCd systems have been investigated by performing molecular-dynamics simulations using a recently developed empirical many-body potential energy function for these systems, which comprices two- and three-body atomic interactions. Surface reconstruction and multilayer relaxation on clean surfaces, adatom on surface, substitutional atom on surface and bulk materials, and vacancy on surface and bulk materials have been studied extensively. Correlations between Raman frequency shifts and the thermodynamic quantities close to the melting point in D2O ice
Karacali, H; Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Wiley, 2005-11-01)
The Raman frequency shifts (1/v) (partial derivative v/partial derivative T)(T) and (1/v) (partial derivative v/partial derivative P)(T) of the translational mode are correlated to the specific heat C-p and to the thermal expansivity alpha(p), respectively, in D2O ice. Close to the melting point, they correlate linearly, from which the values of the slope dP/dT have been deduced in D2O ice. Our calculated values of dP/dT are in very good agreement with the experimentally obtained value in this crystalline s...
Temperature and pressure dependence of the Raman intensity and frequency of a soft mode near the tricritical point in the ferroelectric SbSI
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Informa UK Limited, 2016-01-01)
We analyze the pressure dependence of the intensity and the frequency of a soft mode from the Raman and elastic light scattering experiments as reported in the literature close to the ferroelectric - paraelectric transition in SbSI crystal. The Raman intensity of this mode is analyzed as a function of pressure at constant temperatures of 272K (first order transition) and 234K (tricritical or second order transition) according to a power-law formula. Our analysis of the Raman intensity gives closely the mean...
Analysis of the Spontaneous Polarization and the Dielectric Constant Near the Ferroelectric Phase Transition in TSCC
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Informa UK Limited, 2008-01-01)
The temperature dependence of the spontaneous polarization and the dielectric constant has been analyzed for the fixed pressures of 0.001,1 and 2.2 kbar close to the phase transitions in TSCC. This analysis is performed using the experimental data for TSCC according to a power-law formula. From our analysis, using the experimental data for the spontaneous polarization, we deduce the values of the critical exponent = 0.32 (1 bar), 0.28 (1 kbar) and 0.26 (2.2 kbar) for the spontaneous polarization near the tr...
