The unsteady and laminar biomagnetic fluid flow of a viscous, incompressible, Newtonian and electrically conducting fluid is numerically investigated. Specifically, the two-dimensional flow driven in an infinite channel containing multiple stenosis and subject to a spatially varying external magnetic field is considered. The numerical method is based on the use of finite element method (FEM) in spatial discretization and unconditionally stable backward finite difference scheme for the time integration, for solving coupled nonlinear differential equations in terms of stream function, vorticity and temperature. Due to nonlinearity, an iterative process is employed between the equations. The study focuses on the alteration of the flow and its temperature behaviors due to the irregular constrictions along the channel. Also, the effects of the external magnetic field, its location and its intensity on the biomagnetic fluid flow are analyzed. The numerical results are presented in terms of streamlines, equivorticity and temperature contours for several values of magnetic field intensity in irregularly and multiply stenosed channels. It is shown that the lengths of the vortices appeared due to the stenosis and magnetic source, increase with an increase in the intensity of the magnetic field and the severity of the constriction.

A computational procedure for estimating residual stresses and secondary plastic flow limits in nonlinearly strain hardening rotating shafts
Eraslan, Ahmet Nedim (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2005-03-01)
A computational procedure to estimate the residual stress distributions and the limit angular speeds for avoiding secondary plastic deformation in nonlinearly strain hardening rotating elastic-plastic shafts is given. The model is based on von Mises yield condition, J(2) deformation theory and a Swift-type hardening law. The boundary value problem for the governing nonlinear differential equation is solved by a shooting method using Newton iterations with numerically approximated tangent. Solid as well as h...
An experimental study of residual fiber strains in Ti-15-3 continuous fiber composites
Pickard, S.M.; Miracle, D.B.; Majumdar, B.S.; Kendig, K.L.; Rothenflue, L.; Çöker, Demirkan (Elsevier BV, 1995-01-01)
A simplified experimental technique to determine the axial fiber residual strain in continuously-reinforced metal matrix composites is described. The residual fiber strains in two Ti-15V-3Cr-3Al-3Sn/SiC metal matrix composites have been measured with this technique. Residual fiber strains on the order of 0.2% are measured in the as-processed condition, and the residual stresses approach zero after testing the composite in tension to failure at room temperature. A conceptual description of the effect of tens...
MHD flow and heat transfer in a lid-driven porous enclosure
Pekmen, B.; Tezer, Münevver (Elsevier BV, 2014-01-20)
The mixed convection flow in a lid-driven square cavity filled with a porous medium under the effect of a magnetic field is studied numerically using the dual reciprocity boundary element method (DRBEM) with Houbolt time integration scheme. Induced magnetic field is also taken into consideration in terms of magnetic potential in solving magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow and temperature equations. Effects of the characteristic dimensionless parameters as Darcy (Da), Magnetic Reynolds (Rem), Grashof (Gr) and Har...
Analyzing Fe-Zn system using molecular dynamics, evolutionary neural nets and multi-objective genetic algorithms
Bhattacharya, Baidurya; Kumar, G. R. Dinesh; Agarwal, Akash; Erkoç, Şakir; Singh, Arunima; Chakraborti, Nirupam (Elsevier BV, 2009-10-01)
Failure behavior of Zn coated Fe is simulated through molecular dynamics (MD) and the energy absorbed at the onset of failure along with the corresponding strain of the Zn lattice are computed for different levels of applied shear rate. temperature and thickness. Data-driven models are constructed by feeding the MD results to an evolutionary neural network. The outputs of these neural networks are utilized to carry out a multi-objective optimization through genetic algorithms, where the best possible tradeo...
AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF POLYVINYL-CHLORIDE) EMULSION POLYMERIZATION - EFFECT OF INITIATOR AND EMULSIFIER CONCENTRATIONS ON POLYMERIZATION KINETICS AND PRODUCT PARTICLE-SIZE
Karakaş, Gürkan (Wiley, 1989-01-01)
Effects of concentration changes in initiator species Na2SO3, (NH4)2S2O8 and CuSO4, and emulsifier, ammonium stearate, on poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) emulsion polymerization kinetics and on product particle size were experimentally investigated. It was observed that to obtain industrially significant rates and overall conversions, not only an optimum concentration ratio of Na2SO3/(NH4)2S2O8/CuSO 4 must be used, but also the concentrations of these species must be above certain limits. Increasing the concentr...
