9Ni-2Mg-Y alloy powders were prepared by arc melting, induction melting, mechanical alloying, solid state reaction and subsequent ball milling processes. The results showed that melting processes are not suitable for preparation of 9Ni-2Mg-Y alloy due to high losses of Mg and Y. Therefore, 9Ni-2Mg-Y alloy powder was prepared by three methods including: 1) mechanical alloying, 2) mechanical alloying + solid state reaction + ball milling, and 3) mixing + solid state reaction + ball milling. The prepared 9Ni-2Mg-Y alloy powders were compared for their catalytic effects on hydrogen desorption of MgH2. It is found that 9Ni -2Mg-Y alloy powder prepared by mechanical alloying + solid state reaction + ball milling method has a smaller particle size (1-5 mu m) and higher surface area (1.7 m(2)g(-1)) than that of other methods. H-2 desorption tests revealed that addition of 9Ni-2Mg-Y alloy prepared by mechanical alloying + solid state reaction + ball milling to MgH2 decreases the hydrogen desorption temperature of MgH2 from 425 to 210 degrees C and improves the hydrogen desorption capacity from 0 to 3.5 wt.% at 350 degrees C during 8 min. The effect of hydrogen on the electronic, mechanical and phonon properties of LaMgNi4 and its hydrides for hydrogen storage applications
Baysal, M. B.; SÜRÜCÜ, GÖKHAN; DELİGÖZ, ENGİN; ÖZIŞIK, HAVVA (Elsevier BV, 2018-12-27)
Density functional theory calculations are used herein to explore the effect of hydrogen on the electronic, mechanical and phonon properties of LaMgNi4 and its hydrides. The polycrystalline elastic moduli, Poisson's ratios and Debye temperatures are calculated based on the single-crystal elastic constants and Voigt-Reuss-Hill approximations. It is also found that all these materials are metallic behavior, ductile and anisotropic in nature. The mechanical anisotropy is discussed via several anisotropy indice...
A photoelectrochemical device for water splitting using oligoaniline-crosslinked [Ru(bpy)(2)(bpyCONHArNH(2))](+2) dye/IrO2 nanoparticle array on TiO2 photonic crystal modified electrode
YILDIZ, HÜSEYİN BEKİR; Carbas, Buket Bezgin; Sonmezoglu, Savas; KARAMAN, MUSTAFA; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2016-09-07)
This article describes the construction of photoelectrochemical cell system splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using UV-vis light under constant applied voltage. Oligoaniline-crosslinked 2-(4-aminobenzyl)malonic acid functionalized IrO2 center dot nH(2)O nanoparticles and visible light absorbing dye, [Ru(bpy)(2)(bpyCONHArNH(2))(+2)] arrays on titanium dioxide (TiO2) photonic crystals modified electrodes were used as photoanode, and nanostructures based on bonding of Pt nanoparticles by using electropo...
Enhancement of hydrogen storage capacity of multi-walled carbon nanotubes with palladium doping prepared through supercritical CO2 deposition method
ERÜNAL, EBRU; Ulusal, Fatma; ASLAN, MUSTAFA YASİN; GÜZEL, BİLGEHAN; Üner, Deniz (Elsevier BV, 2018-06-07)
Pd doped Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes were prepared via supercritical carbon dioxide deposition method in order to enhance the hydrogen uptake capacity of carbon nanotubes at ambient conditions. A new bipyridyl precursor that enables reduction at moderate conditions was used during preparation of the sample. Both XRD analyses and TEM images confirmed that average Pd nanoparticle size distribution was around 10 nm. Hydrogen adsorption and desorption experiments at room temperature with very low pressures (0...
A Rheological Characterization and Parametric Analysis of a Bentonite Sample
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (Informa UK Limited, 2011-01-01)
During the initial stage of this research, properties (x-ray, chemical analysis, swelling test, cation exchange capacity, and amount of clay) of bentonite samples were determined. The concentration effect on the rheological properties of bentonite suspension was determined at six different concentrations (20, 22.5, 24, 26, 28, and 30 gr/350 ml). Fann viscometer dial readings were measured at ten varying rates of shear600, 300, 200, 100, 60, 30, 20, 10, 6, and 3 rpm. A three-parameter Robertson-Stiff model, ...
Characterization of lignocellulose biomass and model compounds by thermogravimetry
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (Informa UK Limited, 2017-01-01)
In this research, combustion characteristics of lignocellulose biomass (hazelnut shell) and three main components (cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin) were investigated using thermogravimetry (TGA-DTG) technique at different heating rates. The ignition, peak, burn-out temperatures, and the heat liberation of lignocellulose biomass and three main components were also measured. Two different model-free kinetic methods, known as Ozawa-Flynn-Wall (OFW) and Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS), were used in order to...
