In-situ observation and numerical study of dynamic delamination in tapered composite laminates
Dashatan, Saeid Hosseinpour; Parnas, Kemal Levend; Çöker, Demirkan; Bozkurt, Mirac Onur; Ozen, Emine Burcin (2023-05-15)
In this study, dynamic delamination behavior in asymmetric GFRP tapered laminates under quasi-static tensile loading is investigated experimentally and numerically. Abaqus/Explicit cohesive interface modeling is utilized to simulate delamination initiation and dynamic propagation. Time-frame based delamination mechanisms predicted in simulations are compared to in-situ high-speed camera images for four geometrically asymmetric specimens containing grouped and ungrouped drop-off types. It is observed that th...
In-orbit estimation of time-varying residual magnetic moment for small satellite applications
Söken, Halil Ersin (2013-09-16)
A method for in-orbit estimation of time-varying residual magnetic moment is presented for small satellite applications. The Unscented Kalman Filter is used as the estimator. Unlike the existing studies in the literature, unexpected abrupt changes in the residual magnetic moment are also considered. Sudden shifts in the mean of the residual magnetic moment is detected by a low pass filter applied to the normalized innovation of the Unscented Kalman Filter. Then, by using a simple approach, which does not re...

The contribution of strategic spatial planning to the establishment of democratic governance structures
Soysal, Begüm; Ataöv Demirkan, Anlı; Department of City and Regional Planning (2008)
This thesis aims to search the contribution of strategic spatial planning to the establishment of democratic governance structures. Within this aim; it discusses strategic spatial planning with respect to its procedural and organizational characteristics and the notion of governance with respect to the issue of participatory democracy. Additionally; it argues that strategic spatial planning includes some conditions including that enhance the development of democratic governance. In doing these; it both cove...
The Contribution of Food Safety Management Systems to the Prevention of Deliberate Food Contamination
Smith, Madeleine (2008-09-20)
Food Safety Management systems such as HACCP can help to prevent deliberate contamination of food. These systems are widely used already by the food industry to prevent accidental contamination. This makes them an attractive and cost effective way to address the issue of deliberate contamination.
