mu+N ->tau+N at a muon or neutrino factory

The experimental discovery of large nu(mu)-nu(tau) mixing indicates that analogous mixing in the charged lepton sector could be substantial. We consider the possibility that if a high intensity muon beam, perhaps at the early stages of a muon or neutrino factory, strikes a nuclear target, then conversion of some of the muons into tau leptons could occur (similar to the conversion of muons to electrons at MECO). Using current experimental limits on rare tau decays to bound the size of the relevant operators, we find that a 50 GeV muon beam, with 10(20) muons on target per year, could yield as many as 10(7) mu+N-->tau+N events per year. Backgrounds could be substantial, and we comment on the possibility of detection of this process.

Sneutrino dark matter: Symmetry protection and cosmic ray anomalies
Demir, Durmus A.; Everett, Lisa L.; Frank, Mariana; Selbuz, Levent; Turan, İsmail (American Physical Society (APS), 2010-02-01)
We present an R-parity conserving model of sneutrino dark matter within a Higgsphilic U(1)' extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. In this theory, the mu parameter and light Dirac neutrino masses are generated naturally upon the breaking of the U(1)' gauge symmetry. One of the right-handed sneutrinos is the lightest supersymmetric particle. The leptonic and hadronic decays of another sneutrino, taken to be the next-to-lightest superpartner, allow for a natural fit to the recent results repo...
CP asymmetry in charged Higgs decays to chargino-neutralino pairs
Frank, Mariana; Turan, İsmail (American Physical Society (APS), 2007-10-01)
We analyze the charge-parity (CP) asymmetry in the charged Higgs boson decays to chargino-neutralino pairs, H-+/- -> chi(+/-)(i)chi(0)(j), i = 1, 2, j = 1,...,4. We show first that these modes have a large branching ratio for m(H)(+/-) greater than or similar to 600 GeV. We use Cutkosky rules to obtain the analytical formulas needed for the evaluation of the asymmetry under consideration. We then calculate the CP asymmetry in chargino-neutralino decays by including supersymmetric mass bounds, as well as con...
b -> s gamma decay in the two Higgs doublet model with flavour changing neutral currents
Alıyev, Tahmasıb (IOP Publishing, 1999-05-01)
We study the b --> s gamma decay including the next-to-leading QCD corrections in the two Higgs doublet model with flavour changing neutral currents at the tree level. We find the constraints to the flavour changing parameters of the model, using the experimental results on the branching ratio of B --> X(s)gamma decay, provided by the CLEO Collaboration. The restrictions coming from the Delta F = 2 (F = K, D, B) mixing and the rho parameter.
DsTau: study of tau neutrino production with 400 GeV protons from the CERN-SPS
Aoki, Shigeki; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2020-01-01)
In the DsTau experiment at the CERN SPS (NA65), an independent and direct way to measure tau neutrino production following high energy proton interactions was proposed. As the main source of tau neutrinos is a decay of D-s mesons, produced in proton-nucleus interactions, the project aims at measuring a differential cross section of this reaction. The experimental method is based on a use of high resolution emulsion detectors for effective registration of events with short lived particle decays. Here we pres...
CP asymmetry in charged Higgs decays in the MSSM
Frank, Mariana; Turan, İsmail (American Physical Society (APS), 2007-07-01)
We discuss and compare the charge-parity (CP) asymmetry in the charged Higgs boson decays H-->(u) over bar (i)d(j) for the second and third generation quarks in the minimal supersymmetric standard model. As part of the analysis, we derive some general analytical formulas for the imaginary parts of two-point and three-point scalar one-loop integrals and use them for calculating vectorial- and tensorial-type integrals needed for the problem under consideration. We find that, even though each decay mode has a ...
