Bu çalışmada, türbülanslı, tam gelişmiş iç akışta farklı boyutsuz geometrik ölçülere sahip kanatçıklı yapılardan gerçekleşen kararlı rejimdeki ısı transferini belirlemeye yönelik deneysel bir çalışma yürütülmüştür. Geometrik parametrelerin ısı taşınım katsayısı ve Nusselt sayısına etkisi araştırılmıştır. Deneysel veriler işlenerek Reynolds sayısı aralığı, ve boyutsuz geometrik ölçülerin (kanatçıklar arası mesafe/kanatçık kalınlığı), (kanatçık üstü kanal yüksekliği/kanatçık boyu) iken ampirik Nusselt sayısı eşilişkisi elde edilmiştir.

Experimental investigation of single phase liquid flow and heat transfer in multiport minichannels
Altınöz, Mesru; Güvenç Yazıcıoğlu, Almıla; Baker, Derek Keıth; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2013)
This thesis aims to experimentally investigate pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics of single phase water flow in rectangular minichannels. The small channels are an area of interest in heat transfer field since 1970’s owing to their enhanced heat transfer characteristics. However, the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of these channels are not fully established as there is a wide number of studies in literature showing inconsistent results with each other. In order to investigate t...
Improving flow structure and natural convection within fin spacings of plate fin heat sinks
Özet, Mehmet Erdem; Tarı, İlker; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2015)
The main objectives of this thesis are to numerically investigate the previously observed recirculation zones and longitudinal vortices that occur in low fin height plate finned horizontal heat sinks and to improve the flow structures and heat transfer in these zones using various approaches with the help of simulations performed using commercially available CFD software. The approaches used for improvements are replacing the outer most fins with higher ones, introducing gaps on the length of the fins in va...
Investigation of structural properties of boron carbide nanosystems under mechanical and thermal effects: molecular dynamics simulations
Şimşek, Yusuf; Erkoç, Şakir; Sezgi, Naime Aslı; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2014)
Structural properties of various boron-carbide nanosystems with different sizes have been investigated by performing classical molecular dynamics simulation techniques at several temperatures. Studied boron carbide systems are icosahedral nanoribbons and nanosheets, graphene like armchair and zigzag type of monolayer and bilayer boron carbide nanoribbons and nanosheets, armchair and zigzag type of boron carbide nanotubes, cubic form nanorods and nanosheets. Stillinger-Weber potential energy function paramet...
Incompressible flow simulations using least squares spectral element method on adaptively refined triangular grids
Akdağ, Osman; Sert, Cüneyt; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2012)
The main purpose of this study is to develop a flow solver that employs triangular grids to solve two-dimensional, viscous, laminar, steady, incompressible flows. The flow solver is based on Least Squares Spectral Element Method (LSSEM). It has p-type adaptive mesh refinement/coarsening capability and supports p-type nonconforming element interfaces. To validate the developed flow solver several benchmark problems are studied and successful results are obtained. The performances of two different triangular ...
3-D numerical simulations of fluid flow and heat transfer in various micro conduits
Turgay, Metin Bilgehan; Güvenç Yazıcıoğlu, Almıla; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2017)
In this work, it is aimed to investigate the effect of roughness geometrical properties and configurations on laminar flow and heat transfer characteristics in microchannels, numerically. For this purpose, two-dimensional parallel plate, and three-dimensional trapezoidal microchannels with different roughness properties are modeled along with the smooth ones. Fluid flow and heat transfer simulations are conducted with COMSOL Multiphysics. Roughness is modeled as triangular obstructions on one of the plates ...
