An interactive approach for multi-attribute auctions

2011-05-01
Auction processes are commonly employed in many environments. With rapid advances in Internet and computing technologies, electronic auctions have become very popular. People sell and buy a wide range of goods and services online. There is a growing need for the proper management of online auctions and for providing support to parties involved. In this paper, we develop an interactive approach supporting both the buyer and the bidders in a multi-attribute, single-item, multi-round, reverse auction environment. We demonstrate the algorithm on a number of problems.

Agent-level determinants of price expectation formation in online double-sided auctions
Avci, Ezgi; Bunn, Derek; Ketter, Wolfgang; van Heck, Eric (Elsevier BV, 2019-09-01)
For an auctioneer it is of utmost importance to design an auction mechanism that gives robust price signals which in turn increases auction performance. Information architecture and forward trading platforms are the two main information sources that could generate these price signals. However the traditional presumption that agents form rational expectations by accurately processing all available information in the online trading environment and forming their expectations accordingly has found mixed support...
A fuzzy Petri net model for intelligent databases
Bostan-Korpeoglu, Burcin; Yazıcı, Adnan (Elsevier BV, 2007-08-01)
Knowledge intensive applications require an intelligent environment, which can perform deductions in response to user queries or events that occur inside or outside of the applications. For that, we propose a fuzzy Petri net (FPN) model to represent knowledge and the behavior of an intelligent object-oriented database environment, which integrates fuzzy, active and deductive rules with database objects. The behavior of a system can be unpredictable due to the rules triggering or untriggering each other (non...
A study on enterprise resource planning systems and embedding them into the company processes
Gencel, Orhan; Şen, Tayyar; Department of Information Systems (2003)
In this thesis, implementations of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems are studied with a broader view. Pre-implementation preparations and post-implementation developments play key roles in the success of the ERP utilization of the companies. To find out how the success can be achieved, various concepts in ERP implementation are analyzed. Using analogies with the basic software development models, common application methodologies are studied. The study is completed with the analysis of an interesting and ...
An approach for generating natural language specifications by utilizing business process models
Coşkunçay, Ahmet; Arifoğlu, Ali; Yılal, Elif; Department of Information Systems (2010)
Business process modeling is utilized by organizations for defining and reengineering their business processes. On the other hand, software requirements analysis activities are performed for determining the system boundaries, specifying software requirements using system requirements and resolving conflicts between requirements. From this point of view, these two activities are considered in different disciplines. An organization requiring its business processes to be defined and supported with information ...
Considering manufacturing cost and scheduling performance on a CNC turning machine
Gürel, Sinan (Elsevier BV, 2007-02-16)
A well known industry application that allows controllable processing times is the manufacturing operations on CNC machines. For each turning operation as an example, there is a nonlinear relationship between the manufacturing cost and its required processing time on a CNC turning machine. If we consider total manufacturing cost (F-1) and total weighted completion time (F-2) objectives simultaneously on a single CNC machine, making appropriate processing time decisions is as critical as making job sequencin...
