As the number of available web services published in registries and on web sites increases, web service discovery becomes a challenging task. One solution to the problem is to use distributed web service search system composed of domain specific sub service discoverers. Using ontology is the most common practice to specify domain knowledge. However, an important problem at this point is the lack of semantic annotation for currently available web services. For this reason, there is a strong need for a mechanism for semantic annotation of unannotated services. In this work, we propose a web service semantic annotation method that uses lexicon-based alignment. Lexicon-based alignment considers the different senses of the words, and hence it can find the association between the service and the ontology more accurately than previous alignment techniques.

Query interface and query language for domain specific web service discovery system
Özdil, Hilal; Karagöz, Pınar; Department of Computer Engineering (2011)
As the number of the published web services increase, discovery of the web services with the desired functionality and quality is becoming a challenging process. Selecting the appropriate web services among the ones that o er the same functionality is also a challenging task. The web service repositories like UDDI (Universal Description Discovery and Integration) support only the syntactic searchs. Quality of service parameters for the published web services can not be queried over these repositories. We ha...
Using semantic information for distributed web service discovery
Cantürk, Deniz; Karagöz, Pınar (2011-01-01)
With the increase in number and size of service registries, web service discovery becomes a challenging activity. There is also tremendous increase in the number of web services that are not registered to any of the business registries. Under these conditions, finding an appropriate web service may lead to problems in terms of performance, efficiency, end-to-end security and quality of the discovered services. Use of semantic information has been studied in web service discovery for improving the accuracy o...
SERVICE ACQUISITION AND VALIDATION IN A DISTRIBUTED SERVICE DISCOVERY SYSTEM CONSISTING OF DOMAIN-SPECIFIC SUB-SYSTEMS
Canturk, Deniz; Karagöz, Pınar (2010-06-12)
With the increase in the number of advertised web services, finding the web services appropriate for a given request will result in problems in terms of performance, efficiency and quality of the discovered services. In this paper, we introduce a distributed web service discovery system which consists of domain-specific subsystems. We establish ontology based domain specific web service discovery sub-systems in order to discover web services on private sites and in business registries, and in order to impro...
Automated Web Services Composition with the Event Calculus
Aydin, Onur; Çiçekli, Fehime Nihan; Cicekli, Ilyas (2007-10-24)
As the web services proliferate and complicate it is becoming an overwhelming job to manually prepare the web service compositions which describe the communication and integration between web services. This paper analyzes the usage of the Event Calculus, which is one of the logical action-effect definition languages, for the automated preparation and execution of web service compositions. In this context, abductive planning capabilities of the Event Calculus are utilized. It is shown that composite process ...
Automatic QoS evaluation method for web services
Aşkaroğlu, Emra; Karagöz, Pınar (2012-07-04)
In this work, we propose a new QoS evaluation method for web services. The proposed method aims to keep track of web services in terms of QoS parameters and to generate QoS values automatically when necessary. It is realized as a part of a Web service discovery system that is a collection of domain specific service discovery nodes.
