On the design of staggered moving target indicator filters

ISPIR, Mehmet
Candan, Çağatay
The problem of moving target indicator (MTI) filter design for radar systems with non-uniform (staggered) pulse repetition intervals is examined. The goal is to realise and then utilise a trade-off in the design of MTI filter between the conflicting requirements of high suppression of undesired signal (clutter echo) and minimal suppression of desired signal (target echo). To that aim, three design methodologies, namely, least squares, convex optimisation and min-max error, are studied. The numerical results indicate that the presented designs yield high-performance MTI filters which are easily applicable to a variety of operational scenarios. A ready-to-use source code for the design of suggested filters is also provided.

Radar target classification method with reduced aspect dependency and improved noise performance using multiple signal classification algorithm
SEÇMEN, MUSTAFA; Sayan, Gönül (Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), 2009-12-01)
This study introduces a novel aspect and polarisation invariant radar target classification method based on the use of multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm for feature extraction. In the suggested method, for each candidate target at each designated reference aspect, feature matrices called 'MUSIC spectrum matrices (MSMs)' are constructed using the target's scattered data at different late-time intervals. An individual MSM corresponds to a map of a target's natural resonance-related power distri...
A General Framework for Optimum Iterative Blockwise Equalization of Single Carrier MIMO Systems and Asymptotic Performance Analysis
Güvensen, Gökhan Muzaffer; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2013-02-01)
The paper proposes a general framework for both time-domain (TD) and frequency-domain (FD) iterative blockwise equalization in single carrier (SC) wideband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels. First, a novel turbo blockwise operating equalizer structure is proposed by jointly optimizing the feed-forward and feedback filters at each iteration based on the minimum mean squared error (MMSE) criterion. Optimization of the filter coefficients, utilized for feed-forward equalization and decision feedba...
E-plane sectoral horn power divider
Secmen, M.; Demir, Şimşek; Hizal, A. (Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), 2010-02-01)
E-plane sectoral horn power divider design method for high-power antenna array applications is presented. In this method, power division is proportional to the cross section areas of the waveguide channels at the aperture of an E-plane sectoral horn antenna. Two different power dividers are designed and produced to be used with an X-band antenna array having 30 dB Taylor distribution. The first one employs a simple E-plane sectoral horn antenna. This straightforward application of the method might be limite...
Efficient Methods of Clutter Suppression for Coexisting Land and Weather Clutter Systems
Candan, Çağatay; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2009-10-01)
The removal of coexisting land and weather clutter signals is a common problem in many radar applications. Although the optimal method for land-weather clutter suppression is known, it is usually not amenable to implementation due to computation and storage limitations of the processor. We propose an alternative method that employs low rank approximations on weather clutter correlation matrix to obtain detectors which are feasible to implement. The performance of the proposed method is compared with the opt...
Calculating Outage Probability of Block Fading Channels Based on Moment Generating Functions
Yılmaz, Ali Özgür (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2011-11-01)
Block fading channels present a realistic model in many communication scenarios. We propose a method by which the outage probability of block fading channels can be evaluated in a straighforward and computationally efficient manner by utilizing the moment generating function of a single block's mutual information. The flexibility of moment generating functions helps obtain outage probabilities in various cases such as wideband noise jamming and multi-access interference. The effect of discrete input alphabe...
