In this study we obtain a linear variation of the specific heat Cp with the Raman frequency shifts 1/v (partial derivative v/partial derivative T)p for the rotatory lattice (librational) mode in the ammonia solid II near the melting point. From this linearity, we deduce values of the slope dP(m)/dT for the pressures of 3.65, 5.02 and 6.57 kbars in the ammonia solid II. Critical Behaviour of the Heat Capacity Near the alpha-beta Phase Transition in Quartz

The alpha-beta transition ( T-Q = 578 degrees C) is studied in quartz by analyzing the experimental heat capacity C-p data taken from the literature, using a power-law formula. Values of the critical exponent alpha for C-p are extracted below and above T-Q, which describe the alpha-beta transition as a second order transition in quartz. The alpha values obtained here are compared with the predictions of the theoretical models.
Frequency shifts of the disorder-induced modes close to the tricritical phase transition in NH4Cl

We have studied the Raman frequencies of the disorder-induced modes of v, (93 cm(-1)) and v(5) (144 cm(-1)) close to the tricritical phase transition in NH4Cl (P 1.6 kbar, T. 257 K). Using our observed Raman data for these phonon modes, we have obtained the value of the exponent a approximate to 0.3 for the frequency shifts, which can describe the critical behaviour of the thermal expansivity a, and also of the specific heat Cp. We calculate here the volume of solid hexadecane as a function of pressure near the melting point. For this calculation, we analyze the thermal expansivity at constant temperatures of 302 and 325 K in this organic compound.
Calculation of the Raman Linewidths of Lattice Modes Close to the alpha-beta Transition in Quartz

The Raman frequencies of the lattice modes (147 cm(-1) and 207 cm(-1)) are analyzed for the alpha-beta transition in quartz according to a power-law formula with the critical exponent by using the experimental data. The temperature dependence of the Raman frequency is associated with the order parameter (polarization P) for this transition in the quartz crystal.
