Soil Improvement with mini jetgrout columns and geogrid reinforced mechanical fill system under a machine foundation
Dadaşbilge, Ozan; Huvaj Sarıhan, Nejan (null; 2018-09-16)
A shallow (mat) foundation of 21 m x 21 m plan dimensions was constructed using fiber reinforced concrete in an automotive spare part factory in Kocaeli, Turkey. After placing two similar machines of 785 tons and 605 tons weight on the same foundation, differential settlements were observed. The machines are 5,2 m wide and 15,7 m long each, and the clear distance between them is 6,0 m. Both of the machines were leveled with adjustment screws on their frames a couple of times, but the settlements of 0,5 – 2,...
Soil Parameter Identification by Differential Evolution
Dörtdivanlıoğlu, Berkin; Pekcan, Onur (null; 2013-06-26)
In this study, a method to estimate the soil strength parameters (c': effective stress cohesion, Φ': residual friction angle) of a natural slope adopting inverse analysis via the meta-heuristic optimization algorithm, Differential Evolution, is proposed. A case study, the stability of a natural slope is analyzed to prove the effectiveness of the proposed method. During analysis, to evaluate the factor of safety, two rigorous methods, Spencer's method and Simplified Janbu method are utilized. An error functi...
Soil water content estimation from point scale to plot scale
Demir, Gökben; Akyürek, Sevda Zuhal; Department of Civil Engineering (2018)
Estimating soil moisture is crucial for understanding vadose zone and surface hydrology dynamics. In this study, soil moisture measurement is investigated by using a range of techniques spanning different spatial scales in a test basin in the south of Turkey. A cosmic ray sensor soil moisture probe (CRS) and a water content reflectometer (CS-616) have been installed for retrieving volumetric soil moisture data continuously. Lab analyses have been performed for calibrating the installed instruments and to ob...
