Ankara (latitude: around 40 degrees N) is in Central Anatolia and the climate is dry continental. Due to the rapid transition to renewable energy policies of Turkey it is now a must to complete truthful feasibility analyses for solar power systems countrywide. Long term performance and degradation analyses have been carried out by the authors for three different arrays and many research results appearing in the literature are summarized. Present research analyzes the outdoor testing results of two PV modules monthly data. One of the modules has multi crystalline silicon (Poly-Si) cells and the other is thin film silicon (amorphous Si / microcrystalline Si tandem structure - a-Si/mu c-Si) cells. The results showed that in five years the average yearly efficiency decreases from 14% to 11% for Poly-Si (14.72% is the nameplate Standard Test Condition (STC) efficiency) and from 8% to 6% for thin film modules (9.15% is STC efficiency). Our calculations are based on measured solar global-horizontal irradiance from which we calculated plane-of-array irradiation using an anisotropic sky model. We present the details of these analyses and degradation rates for the two types of modules to be used in long term feasibility analyses

Thermal Modeling and Verification of PV Module Temperature and Energy Yield Using Outdoor Measurements for Ankara, Turkey
Tuncel, Bilge; Akınoğlu, Bülent Gültekin; ÖZDEN, TALAT; Balog, Robert S (2018-11-14)
Ankara is in the Central Anatolia region of Turkey where the climate is dry-continental with an annual solar insolation of around 1750 kWh/m(2). In the transition to renewable energy, detailed analyses are required to ensure effective and economic utilization of the available solar resource. An essential part of these analyses is to calculate expected energy yield. For photovoltaic (PV) systems, this includes the effect of temperature on the PV efficiency, which determines the power yield of the PV modules....
Surge and coastal inundation study of September 2014 storm in Giresun, Black Sea
Aydın, Deniz Can; Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet; Özyurt Tarakcıoğlu, Gülizar; Department of Civil Engineering (2016)
In Turkey, due to the fact that the Black Sea coast is vulnerable to storms and coastal hazards, further comprehensive studies for storm surge and consequent coastal inundation are necessary. The aim of this study is to investigate wave formation under storm conditions and analyze coastal flooding in Giresun during the storm event occurred between 23-26 September 2014. For this purpose numerical studies are carried out in two phases. In phase 1, coupled ADCIRC+SWAN model is used for examining wave generatio...
Strike-slip neotectonic regime and related structures in the Cappadocia region: a case study in the Salanda basin, Central Anatolia, Turkey
Kocyigit, Ali; DOĞAN, UĞUR (2016-01-01)
The study area is a strike-slip basin of approximately 1-9 km wide, 66 km long and N65 degrees W trending, located between the historical Kesikkopru in the west and the Sarihidir settlement in the east along the northern side of the Central Anatolian Volcanic Province. It was evolved on a regional erosional surface of a pre-Quaternary volcanosedimentary sequence during Quaternary. This is evidenced by the stratigraphical, structural, and seismic data. The total amounts of throw and dextral strike-slip displ...
Evaluation of tsunami scenarios for western Peloponnese, Greece
Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet; Dilmen, D. I.; Aytore, B.; Ayca, A.; Insel, I.; Zaytsev, A. (2014-06-01)
Tsunami hazard assessment of the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea is the current interest of the countries having, a coastline in this region. Considering today's increasing population on the coasts and historical tsunamis, it is essential to estimate the probable tsunami risk, which might occur, to be able to mitigate the risk before the actual tsunami event happens. For this purpose, European Union funded project., SEAHELLARC is formed to develop a methodology and tools for seismic and tsunami safety...
Integrated Watershed Management for Lake Mogan with the focus of Agricultural Diffuse Pollution
Özcan, Zeynep; Başkan, O; Düzgün, Hafize Şebnem; Kentel, Elçin; Alp, Emre (2015-09-25)
Lake Mogan located 20 km south of Ankara, Turkey has a watershed area of 970 km2, and it is dominated by areas with dry agricultural practices (50%) and graze lands (31%). Intense agricultural activities and fast urbanization rates are the most important factors affecting the water quality in Lake Mogan. There has been several management alternatives suggested to improve the water quality in Lake Mogan. In 2008, the municipality implemented lake augmentation strategy to increase the water level since it dro...
