Consolidation of elastic porous media saturated by two immiscible fluids
Tuncay, Kağan (1996-11-01)
A theory is presented to simulate the consolidation of elastic porous media saturated by two immiscible Newtonian fluids. The macroscopic equations, including mass and momentum balance equations and constitutive relations, are obtained by volume averaging the microscale equations. The theory is based on the small deformation assumption. In the microscale, the grains are assumed to be linearly elastic and the fluids are Newtonian. The bulk and shear moduli of the solid matrix are introduced to obtain the mac...
Relaxation to steady state in neutral-beam-injected mirrors
Mirnov, V; Demokan, O (1996-05-01)
The time-dependent Vlasov-Boltzmann equation is analytically studied in mirror machines with perpendicular injection. The atomic and collisional processes are taken into account, with their explicit, rigorous forms. A uniform model is assumed by considering a square-well magnetic field configuration, and the mirrors are represented by related boundary conditions on the ion distribution function. It is shown that, the ion density increases from the initial value, drops by a certain amount, then increases aga...
Recovery enhancement of magnetite fines in magnetic separation
Arol, Ali İhsan (2004-01-23)
Low intensity wet magnetic separation is not very effective for particles less than 10 mum. The magnitude of the fluid drag force exceeds the magnetic force exerted on such particles. Thus, fine magnetic particles are usually not picked up effectively by magnetic separators, resulting in the loss of valuable minerals. Magnetic separation applied to ultrafine magnetite particles after size enlargement by polymer flocculation were found to be effective in reducing loss of fine magnetite particles.
