Study of tau neutrino production at the CERN SPS

2019-01-01
At the CERN SPS, the DsTau project has been proposed to study tau-neutrino production aiming at providing important information for future v, measurements. Precise measurement of the v, cross section would enable a search for new physics effects in v, charged current interactions. It also has practical implications for neutrino oscillation experiments. The dominant source of v, is the sequential decay of Ds mesons produced by proton interactions, whose uncertainty dominates current uncertainty in the v, cross section measurement. The project aims at reducing the systematic uncertainty from about 50% to 10% by measuring the Ds differential production cross section. For this purpose, emulsion detectors with a nanometreprecision readout will be used to detect small kinks of the Ds T decay. An emulsion detector has a position resolution of 50 nm, allowing for the detection of Ds T X double kinks in a few millimeter range.

Measurement of the Top Quark Pair Production Cross Section in Proton-Proton Collisions at root s=13 TeV
Khachatryan, V.; et. al. (American Physical Society (APS), 2016-02-01)
The top quark pair production cross section is measured for the first time in proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 43 pb(-1). The measurement is performed by analyzing events with at least one electron and one muon of opposite charge, and at least two jets. The measured cross section is 746 +/- 58(stat) +/- 53(syst) +/- 36(lumi) pb, in agreement with the expectation from the standard model.
Measurement of the W+W- Cross Section in root s=7 TeV pp Collisions with ATLAS
Aad, G.; et. al. (American Physical Society (APS), 2011-07-20)
This Letter presents a measurement of the W+W- production cross section in root s = 7 TeV pp collisions by the ATLAS experiment, using 34 pb(-1) of integrated luminosity produced by the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Selecting events with two isolated leptons, each either an electron or a muon, 8 candidate events are observed with an expected background of 1.7 +/- 0.6 events. The measured cross section is 41(-16)(+20)(stat) +/- 5(syst) +/- 1(lumi) pb, which is consistent with the standard model prediction o...
Observation of Top Quark Production in Proton-Nucleus Collisions
Sirunyan, A. M.; et. al. (American Physical Society (APS), 2017-12-01)
The first observation of top quark production in proton-nucleus collisions is reported using proton-lead data collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of root(S)(NN) = 8.16 TeV. The measurement is performed using events with exactly one isolated electron or muon candidate and at least four jets. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 174 nb(-1). The significance of the tt signal against the background-only hypothesis is above 5 standard d...
Study of B Meson Production in p plus Pb Collisions at root s(NN)=5.02 TeV Using Exclusive Hadronic Decays
Khachatryan, V.; et. al. (American Physical Society (APS), 2016-01-01)
The production cross sections of the B+, B-0, and B-s(0) mesons, and of their charge conjugates, are measured via exclusive hadronic decays in p + Pb collisions at the center-of-mass energy root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. The data set used for this analysis corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 34.6 nb(-1). The production cross sections are measured in the transverse momentum range between 10 and 60 GeV/c. No significant modification is observed compared to proton-proton pe...
Measurement of Dijet Angular Distributions and Search for Quark Compositeness in pp Collisions at root s=7 TeV
Khachatryan, V.; et. al. (American Physical Society (APS), 2011-05-01)
Dijet angular distributions are measured over a wide range of dijet invariant masses in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV, at the CERN LHC. The event sample, recorded with the CMS detector, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb(-1). The data are found to be in good agreement with the predictions of perturbative QCD, and yield no evidence of quark compositeness. With a modified frequentist approach, a lower limit on the contact interaction scale for left-handed quarks of Lambda(+) = 5.6 TeV (Lambda(...
