The Open Profiling of Quality (OPQ) is a mixed methods approach combining a conventional quantitative psychoperceptual evaluation and qualitative descriptive quality evaluation based on naive participants' individual vocabulary. The method targets evaluation of heterogeneous and multimodal stimulus material. The current OPQ data collection procedure provides a rich pool of data, but full benefit of it has neither been taken in the analysis to build up completeness in understanding the phenomenon under the study nor has the procedure in the analysis been probed with alternative methods. The goal of this paper is to extend the original OPQ method with advanced research methods that have become popular in related research and the component model to be able to generalize individual attributes into a terminology of Quality of Experience. We conduct an extensive subjective quality evaluation study for 3D video on mobile device with heterogeneous stimuli. We vary factors on content, media (coding, concealments, and slice modes), and transmission levels (channel loss rate). The results showed that advanced procedures in the analysis cannot only complement each other but also draw deeper understanding on Quality of Experience.

A pattern classification approach for boosting with genetic algorithms
Yalabık, Ismet; Yarman Vural, Fatoş Tunay; Üçoluk, Göktürk; Şehitoğlu, Onur Tolga (2007-11-09)
Ensemble learning is a multiple-classifier machine learning approach which produces collections and ensembles statistical classifiers to build up more accurate classifier than the individual classifiers. Bagging, boosting and voting methods are the basic examples of ensemble learning. In this study, a novel boosting technique targeting to solve partial problems of AdaBoost, a well-known boosting algorithm, is proposed. The proposed system finds an elegant way of boosting a bunch of classifiers successively ...
Multipath Characteristics of Frequency Diverse Arrays Over a Ground Plane
Cetintepe, Cagri; Demir, Şimşek (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2014-07-01)
This paper presents a theoretical framework for an analytical investigation of multipath characteristics of frequency diverse arrays (FDAs), a task which is attempted for the first time in the open literature. In particular, transmitted field expressions are formulated for an FDA over a perfectly conducting ground plane first in a general analytical form, and these expressions are later simplified under reasonable assumptions. Developed formulation is then applied to a uniform, linear, continuous-wave opera...
A metamodeling methodology involving both qualitative and quantitative input factors
Tunali, S; Batmaz, I (Elsevier BV, 2003-10-16)
This paper suggests a methodology for developing a simulation metamodel involving both quantitative and qualitative factors. The methodology mainly deals with various strategic issues involved in metamodel estimation, analysis, comparison, and validation. To illustrate how to apply the methodology, a regression metamodel is developed for a client-server computer system. In particular, we studied how the response time is affected by the quantum interval, the buffer size. and the total number of terminals whe...
Analysis and Further Improvement of Fine Resolution Frequency Estimation Method From Three DFT Samples
Candan, Çağatay (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2013-09-01)
The bias and mean square error (MSE) analysis of the frequency estimator suggested in [1] is given and an improved version of the estimator, with the removal of estimator bias, is suggested. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) threshold above which the bias removal is effective is also determined.
Maximum likelihood estimation of transition probabilities of jump Markov linear systems
Orguner, Umut (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2008-10-01)
This paper describes an online maximum likelihood estimator for the transition probabilities associated with a jump Markov linear system (JMLS). The maximum likelihood estimator is derived using the reference probability method, which exploits an hypothetical probability measure to find recursions for complex expectations. Expectation maximization (EM) procedure is utilized for maximizing the likelihood function. In order to avoid the exponential increase in the number of statistics of the optimal EM algori...
