Fourth Mediterranean Clay Meeting Preface
Tuerkmenoglu, Asuman Guenal; Göktürk, Emine Hale (Elsevier BV, 2010-08-01)
This special issue contains articles based on selected contributions presented during the “Fourth Mediterranean Clay Meeting” held on 5–10 September 2006 at the Middle East Technical University, Ankara. The contents of this special issue originated from the considerable amounts of interest in common between chemists, engineers and geologists, particularly with respect to both mineralogy–chemistry-characterization of clays, and their applications to environmental and engineering problems. In total ten artic...
The ionospheric foF2 data over Istanbul and their response to solar activity for the years 1964-1969 and 1993
Ozguc, A; Atac, T; Tulunay, Yurdanur; Stanislawska, I (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1998-01-01)
A Polish-made vertical ionosonde (VI) has been operated at the Kandilli Observatory in Istanbul, for almost one year (May 1993 - April 1994) as part of the COST 238, PRIME Project. The critical frequencies were obtained for every half-hour interval. The data obtained during this campaign, on the descending branch of solar cycle 22, and the data measured earlier in Istanbul for cycle 20 were analysed and the characteristic behaviour of the F2 region ionosphere over Istanbul has been determined. This is a uni...
MIDDLE EAST TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY CENTRAL RESEARCH LABORATORY IN NANOTECHNOLOGY , NEW MATERIALS, NEW PROCESSES AND BIOTECHNOLOGY (METU-CENTER)
Turan, Raşit(2008-4-30)
This SSA project will improve and strengthen the human and equipment resources of the Middle East Technical University Central Laboratory (METU-CL) in the area of nanotechnology and nanosciences, knowledge based multifunctional materials, new production pr ocesses and devices (NMP), and molecular biology and biotechnology for food quality and safety. This improvement will raise the research capacity of the center to the level of leading research centers in Europe. Major expected results from the project are...

Hydrogeochemical outline of thermal waters and geothermometry applications in Anatolia (Turkey)
Mutlu, Halim; Güleç, Nilgün Türkan (Elsevier BV, 1998-10-01)
The chemical compositions of a total of 120 thermal water samples from four different tectonically distinct regions (Central, North, East and West Anatolia) of Turkey are presented and assessed in terms of geothermal energy potential of each region through the use of chemical geothermometers. Na-Ca-HCO3, type waters are the dominant water types in all the regions except that Na-Cl type waters are typical for the coastal areas of West Anatolia and for a few inland areas of West and Central Anatolia where dee...
