This paper presents the results of research on rock rippabilities at Tuncbilek Coal Mine. First, direct ripping runs were carried out at four different panels of Turkish Coal Enterprise's (TKI) Tuncbilek Coal Mine by using Komatsu D155 and Caterpillar D8N type dozers. During direct ripping runs, the length of each run, depth of tyne, the change of ripping depth during run, average width between runs, ripping time, and maneuvering time were all measured and recorded to calculate the hourly production. Then, based on the conducted field and laboratory works by using indirect rippability methods, four panels are classified with respect to their rippabilities and ripper productions of those panels are calculated. The direct and indirect rippability assessment methods are compared and discussed with each other and the results are utilized on the rippability assessments of TKI Tuncbilek panels.

Coal pyrolysis: Thermogravimetric study and kinetic analysis
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2003-10-01)
This research comprises the coal pyrolysis by thermogravimetry (TG/DTG). During the pyrolysis of the coal samples studied, gradual and continuous weight loss over the entire temperature range was observed. The weight loss below 210degreesC is related to the removal of moisture. The subsequent pyrolysis process as revealed by the corresponding DTG peak that is related to primary devolatilization, during which carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen compounds are released. Arrhenius-type kinetic model was used to determ...
Fossil fuel sustainability index: An application of resource management
Ediger, Volkan S.; Hosgor, Enes; Surmeli, A. Nesen; Tatlidil, Huseyin (2007-05-01)
A brief review on use of fossil fuel resources and sustainability is given in this paper. A sustainability index for fossil fuels is developed, which aims to determine the most efficient management of fossil fuel resources for the energy system. The study is conducted for 62 countries, in the presence of independence, lifetime and environmental constraints. The effect of these indicators are then integrated into a single index for oil, natural gas, and coal. Two approaches have been taken. The first one emp...
Reactivity of limestones from different sources in Turkey
Hoşten, Çetin; Gulsun, M (Elsevier BV, 2004-01-01)
This paper presents a study on the reactivity of natural limestones from five deposits in Turkey. The conversion rates of carbonates in size fractions of the samples were measured in a stirred suspension of 2.5 1 at 20 degreesC and a constant-pH value of 5 obtained with the addition of HCl solutions by a pH control pump. Particle size and the dolomite content of the limestones were found to be the most influential parameters in the reactivity measurements.
Seismically induced landslide at degirmendere nose, Izmit Bay during Kocaeli (Izmit)-Turkey earthquake
Çetin, Kemal Önder; Unutmaz, B (Elsevier BV, 2004-04-01)
This paper presents a study on the analyses of seismically induced landslide at Degirmendere Nose during the 1999 Kocaeli (lzmit)-Turkey earthquake. The paper discusses: (1) observed ground deformations and displacements after the earthquake, (2) the results of field investigations by means of borings and in situ index tests including standard penetration tests, static cone penetration tests (CPT) and piezocone tests, (3) analyses of observed landslide mechanisms by a suite of methods and (4) potential effe...
Pressure leaching of Sivrihisar-Yunus Emre nickel laterites
Seçen, Berk; Topkaya, Yavuz Ali; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2011)
The aim of this thesis study was to extract nickel and cobalt from Sivrihisar limonitic nickel laterite ore by high pressure acid leaching (HPAL) method under most economical operating parameters. Optimizing the conditions to yield a saleable quality mixed hydroxide product from the pregnant leach solution (PLS) was also investigated. To extract high amounts of nickel and cobalt from the laterite matrix; leaching duration, leaching temperature and sulfuric acid/ore ratio were studied at fixed conditions of ...
