A simulation environment for cybersecurity attack analysis based on network traffic logs
Daneshgadeh, Salva; Oney, Mehmet Ugur; Kemmerich, Thomas; Baykal, Nazife (2019-01-01)
The continued and rapid progress of network technology has revolutionized all modern critical infrastructures and business models. Technologies today are firmly relying on network and communication facilities which in turn make them dependent on network security. Network-security investments do not always guarantee the security of organizations. However, the evaluation of security solutions requires designing, testing and developing sophisticated security tools which are often very expensive. Simulation and...
A MEMS based drug effect analysis system utilizing droplet microfluidics
Özkan, Metin Dündar; Külah, Haluk; Yıldırım, Ender; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2018)
This thesis proposes a fully integrated lab-on-a-chip system designed for drug effect analysis based on the droplet microfluidics. It is mainly designed for screening multi-drug responses of cells in an automated operation. The distinguished feature of the drug screening system is that it includes droplet-based single cell encapsulation. The system includes two main subsystems which are parylene-based and normally closed electrostatic microvalves and droplet generation system. The integration of microvalves...
A new one-pass algorithm to detect region boundaries
Kaygin, S; Bulut, Mehmet Mete (2001-08-01)
In this paper, active chain is introduced as a chain coded contour whose shape is changed during iterations while it stays closed, clockwise and 4 connected. The iterations of the proposed algorithm move the chain items toward the interior region. This behaviour is similar to the active contours (snakes). If the initial contour is counter-clockwise, the same algorithm causes the active chain to expand like a balloon and detect the inner boundaries of the regions. The chain coded contours of all the separate...
A new preconditioner design based on spectral division for power flow analysis
DAĞ, HASAN; YETKİN, Fatih; Manguoğlu, Murat (2011-01-01)
Solution of large sparse linear systems is the most lime consuming part in many power system simulations. Direct solvers based on LU factorization, although robust, are known to have limited satiability on parallel platforms. Thus. Krylov subspace based iterative methods (i.e. Conjugate Gradient method, Generalized Minimal Residuals (GMRES) method) can be used as alternatives. To achieve competitive performance and robustness, however, the Krylov subspace methods need a suitable preconditioner. In this work...
The influence of English on Ukrainian, with a focus on the language of youth
Polyarush, Viktoriya; Bear, Joshua; Department of English Language Teaching (2010)
The purpose of this thesis is to examine the role of Anglicisms in the language of Ukrainian young adults, the motives of English borrowings’ usage, and the attitude of young people towards the presence of Anglicisms in the Ukrainian language. The study examined the language of young adults, newspapers and magazines, and popular TV programmes. Note fields, audio-recordings, and questionnaire were chosen for investigation of borrowings integrated in the Ukrainian language. The study revealed a constant usage...
