The capability of low cost glow discharge detectors (GDDs) for detection of terahertz (THz) radiation draws attention recently. In order to employ them in applications such as THz imaging these studies have typically focused on the response of the GDD at specific frequencies. To better understand the spectral behavior of glow discharges, we have not only examined the response of the GDD at a specific frequency of 118 GHz, but also we examined the interaction mechanism of GDDs with THz radiation using terahertz time domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) in a broader range of frequencies between 0.05 THz - 0.5 THz.

Characterization of a Glow Discharge Detector With Terahertz Time Domain Spectroscopy
Cinar, Kamil; Bozaci, Hasan Mert; Altan, Hakan (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2013-07-01)
Recently, there has been much interest in the capability of low cost glow discharge detectors (GDDs) for detection of terahertz radiation. To utilize them in applications such as terahertz imaging these studies have typically focused on the response of the GDD at specific frequencies. To better understand the spectral behavior of glow discharges, we examine the interaction mechanism of GDDs with terahertz radiation using terahertz time domain spectroscopy in a broader range of frequencies between 0.05 and 0...

Properties of light emitting diodes following cobalt-60 irridiation
Özcan, Şafak; Günal, İbrahim; Department of Physics (2004)
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of gamma radiation on the properties of the light emitting diodes. GaP and GaAsP LEDs are used in the study. It is observed that the exposure of a light emitting diode affects its various properties. A cobalt-60 gamma-cell is used to irradiate the selected light emitting diodes. For the different total doses of gamma pre-irradiation and post-irradiation I-V characteristics and spectral responses are recorded. The capacitance characteristics are me...
The Effect of Phosphor Coating on THz/mm wave-Plasma Interaction in Glow Discharge Detector
Kuşoğlu Sarıkaya, Cemre; AKBAR, DEMİRAL; Altan, Hakan (2019-10-21)
Glow discharge detectors (GDDs) attract attention because they have advantageous features compared to commercial detectors currently used for detecting THz and mm waves. Studies in the literature show that N523-coded GDD which has a phosphor coating exhibits the best performance as a detector. However, to the best of our knowledge, no study has been carried out yet to demonstrate the effect of phosphor coating on the detection mechanism. Therefore, in this study, it is aimed to understand this effect by sim...
Development of high performance active materials for microbolometers
Eroğlu, Numan; Akın, Tayfun; Turan, Raşit; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2011)
This thesis reports the development of Vanadium Tungsten Oxide (VWO) film as an active detector material for uncooled infrared detectors by using the reactive DC magnetron co-sputtering method. VWO is a doped form of the Vanadium Oxide (VOx) which is known as a prominent material for uncooled infrared detectors with its high TCR, low resistivity, and low noise properties. VOx is a widely preferred material for commercialized uncooled infrared detectors along with its drawbacks. Fabrication is fairly difficu...
