In this paper, effects of dividing the air-gap in the iron-core of shunt reactors into several discrete gaps on inductance parameters of the equivalent circuit, core losses and gap losses are investigated. This is achieved by both analytical calculations and Finite Element Method based analyses. A new method called Moving Strip Method is also introduced to estimate the gap loss in the iron-core of shunt reactors having discretely distributed small air-gaps relative to those with large air-gaps. Theoretical results are verified by experiments carried out on an optimized shunt reactor. Results obtained in this work show that leakage inductance component in the equivalent circuit of the reactor can be brought to an absolute minimum and gap loss owing to fringing flux can be reduced significantly by distributing a large air-gap in the reactor core into several discretely distributed small air-gaps. These will simplify the design procedure of shunt reactors which will be used in utility grid applications. Copyright (c) 2012 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l. - All rights reserved.

Effects of anisotropy of ferrite coating on the radiation characteristics of a cylindrical conductor excited by elementary sources
Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem (Informa UK Limited, 1998-01-01)
In this paper, radiation characteristics of an arbitrarily oriented source in an anisotropic multilayered cylindrical structure are investigated by using the state transition matrix approach. Full wave transversal field equations in spectral domain are derived for anisotropic medium in cylindrical coordinates. These expressions are formed into a set of linear first order differential equations. The solution at each layer is expressed in terms of the state transition matrices which are evaluated numerically....
High-frequency loss calculation in a smooth rotor induction motor using FEM
Ertan, Hulusi Bülent; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2007-09-01)
In this paper, a new approach for the calculation of high-frequency losses in induction motors is presented. The input to the motors is assumed to be supplied from a sinusoidal voltage source. The method is based on the two-dimensional (2-D)). field solutions of the magnetic circuit, obtained by using a nonlinear "harmonic" solution. Hence, the solution time is very short. From the "harmonic" solution, the air-gap field distribution as well as the fundamental frequency eddy current losses are determined. Th...
Effects of Non-Abelian Magnetic Fields on Pair Production in Flat and Curved Spaces
Özcan, Berk; Kürkçüoğlu, Seçkin; Department of Physics (2021-9)
Our objective in this thesis is to compute the pair production rates for both bosons and fermions under the influence of non-abelian gauge fields on the manifolds $\mathbb{R}^{3,1} \equiv \mathbb{R}^2 \times \mathbb{R}^{1,1}$ and $S^2 \times \mathbb{R}^{1,1}$. We will compare the pair production rates of the spherical cases with the flat ones, and also compare the non-abelian cases with the abelian ones to see effects of both curvature and non-abelian field strength on the pair production. We first review t...
Effect of electrolyte/sulfur ratio in the cathode on the electrochemical performance of Li-S batteries
Emerce, Nur Ber; Külah, Görkem; Eroğlu Pala, Damla; Department of Chemical Engineering (2019)
In this study, the effect of electrolyte to sulfur (E/S) ratio in the cathode, which is an important cell design parameter, on the electrochemical and cell- and system-level performance of a Lithium-Sulfur (Li-S) battery is investigated through modeling efforts. First, a 1-D electrochemical model is developed for an isothermal, constant-current discharge of a Li-S cell to predict the voltage at 60% discharge depth. In the model, cathode exchange current density is defined as a linear function of the electro...
Influence of layer on the electrical properties of Au/n-4H SiC diodes
Yigiterol, Fatih; Güllü, Hasan Hüseyin; YILDIZ, DİLBER ESRA (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2018-06-01)
In this study, the effect of insulator layer on the electrical characteristics of Au/n-4H SiC diode was investigated. The current-voltage (), capacitance-voltage () and conductance-voltage () measurements were carried out at room temperature condition. Under thermionic emission model, electrical parameters as zero-bias barrier height (), ideality factor (n), interface states (), and series () and shunt () resistances were estimated from forward bias analyses. The values of n and were about 1.305 and 0.796 e...
