Study of high mass Higgs using pp -> qqH

2003-08-01
The observability of the Higgs signal in the mass range of 200-800 GeV is investigated in the weak boson fusion channel at the CMS experiment at LHC. The weak boson fusion channel is characterized by two final state jets at large pseudorapidity. The forward calorimeter plays a key role in detecting these jets. The significant signals are obtained for H --> WW --> lvjj, H --> ZZ --> lljj and H --> ZZ --> llvv. Importance of the forward jet tagging and the central jet veto is emphasized to extract the signal from the large QCD W/Z + jets and the top backgrounds. This analysis shows that the Higgs particle with mass 300 GeV to 800 GeV can be observed in WW and ZZ decay channels with an integrated luminosity of about 10 to 120 fb(-1) in the low luminosity running conditions in CMS.

Observing Higgs in weak boson fusion with forward jet tagging at the CERN CMS experiment
Yıldız, Hatice Duran; Zeyrek, Mehmet Tevfik; Department of Physics (2002)
The experimental observation of Higgs boson will be fundamental for a better understanding of the electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism. In this thesis the Standard Model Higgs boson decaying to a WW or ZZ pair in the weak boson fusion channel is studied for the LHC CMS experiment at CERN. This study utilizes the PYTHIA Monte Carlo event generator and the CMS detector simulation (CMS JET). Throughout this work, the observability of Higgs signal in the wide mass range is explored through WW -> lujj, ZZ ->?...
Measurement of the transverse momentum distribution ofWbosons inppcollisions ats=7  TeVwith the ATLAS detector
Aad, G.; et. al. (American Physical Society (APS), 2012-1-18)
This paper describes a measurement of the W boson transverse momentum distribution using ATLAS pp collision data from the 2010 run of the LHC at ffiffi s p ¼ 7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 31 pb 1. Events form both W ! e and W ! are used, and the transverse momentum of the W candidates is measured through the energy deposition in the calorimeter from the recoil of the W. The resulting distributions are unfolded to obtain the normalized differential cross sections as a function ...
Study of Z Boson Production in PbPb Collisions at root s(NN)=2.76 TeV
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (2011-05-01)
A search for Z bosons in the mu(+)mu(-) decay channel has been performed in PbPb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC, in a 7.2 mu b(-1) data sample. The number of opposite-sign muon pairs observed in the 60-120 GeV/c(2) invariant mass range is 39, corresponding to a yield per unit of rapidity (y) and per minimum bias event of [33.8 +/- 5.5(stat) +/- 4.4(syst)] x 10(-8), in the vertical bar y vertical bar < 2.0 range. Rapidity, transverse momentum, and centrality dependencies...
Precise determination of the mass of the Higgs boson and tests of compatibility of its couplings with the standard model predictions using proton collisions at 7 and 8 TeV
Khachatryan, V.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2015-05-01)
Properties of the Higgs boson with mass near 125 GeV are measured in proton-proton collisions with the CMS experiment at the LHC. Comprehensive sets of production and decay measurements are combined. The decay channels include gamma gamma, ZZ, WW, tau tau, bb, and mu mu pairs. The data samples were collected in 2011 and 2012 and correspond to integrated luminosities of up to 5.1 fb(-1) at 7 TeV and up to 19.7 fb(-1) at 8 TeV. From the high-resolution gamma gamma and ZZ channels, the mass of the Higgs boson ...
Study of high-p(T) charged particle suppression in PbPb compared to pp collisions at root s(NN)=2.76 TeV
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2012-03-01)
The transverse momentum spectra of charged particles have been measured in pp and PbPb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV by the CMS experiment at the LHC. In the transverse momentum range p(T) = 5-10 GeV/c, the charged particle yield in the most central PbPb collisions is suppressed by up to a factor of 7 compared to the pp yield scaled by the number of incoherent nucleon-nucleon collisions. At higher p(T), this suppression is significantly reduced, approaching roughly a factor of 2 for particles with p(T...
