Distinct responses of Gulf of Mexico phytoplankton communities to crude oil and the dispersant corexit(A (R)) Ec9500A under different nutrient regimes
Özhan, Koray (2014-04-01)
This study examines the potential effects of exposure to South Louisiana sweet crude oil (LSC), Corexit(A (R)) EC9500A, and dispersed oil on enclosed phytoplankton communities under different nutrient regimes. Three distinct microcosm experiments were conducted for 10 days to assess changes to the structure of natural communities from the Gulf of Mexico as quantified by temporal changes in the biomasses of different phytoplankton groups. Concentration of NO3, Si and PO4 were 0.83, 0.99 and 0.09 mu M for the...
Different Types of Cell Cycle- and Apoptosis-Related Gene Expressions Alter in Corticosteroid-, Vincristine-, and Melphalan-Resistant U-266 Multiple Myeloma Cell Lines
Mutlu, Pelin; Gündüz, Ufuk (2014-09-01)
Objective: Deregulation of the cell cycle and apoptosis mechanisms in normal cells causes many problems, including cancer. In this study, a genome-wide expression analysis of cell cycle- and apoptosis-related genes in corticosteroid-, vincristine-, and melphalan-resistant U-266 multiple myeloma cell lines was conducted.
Rapid metabolic evolution in human prefrontal cortex
Fu, Xing; Giavalisco, Patrick; Liu, Xiling; Catchpole, Gareth; Fu, Ning; Ning, Zhi-Bin; Guo, Song; Yan, Zheng; Somel, Mehmet; Paeaebo, Svante; Zeng, Rong; Willmitzer, Lothar; Khaitovich, Philipp (2011-04-12)
Human evolution is characterized by the rapid expansion of brain size and drastic increase in cognitive capabilities. It has long been suggested that these changes were accompanied by modifications of brain metabolism. Indeed, human-specific changes on gene expression or amino acid sequence were reported for a number of metabolic genes, but actual metabolite measurements in humans and apes have remained scarce. Here, we investigate concentrations of more than 100 metabolites in the prefrontal and cerebellar...
DIFFERENT INFLUENCES OF 2 FRACTIONS OF LUNG CYTOCHROME-B5 ON RECONSTITUTED LUNG BENZPHETAMINE N-DEMETHYLASE SYSTEM
ARINC, E; Adalı, Orhan; PASHA, RPK; BASARAN, N (1995-10-01)
Chromatography of lung microsomal cytochrome b5 obtained from DEAE-cellulose columns, yielded two distinct cytochrome b5 fractions, These cytochrome b5 fractions were further purified by Sephadex G-100 gel filtration chromatography. The specific cytochrome b5 content of fraction 1 and fraction 2 was found to be 16.5 and 16.4 nmol/mg protein respectively. Both fractions were free of cytochrome P-450, NADPH-cytochrome P-450 reductase and NADH-cytochrome b5 reductase activities. The effects of lung cytochrome ...

(2021-06-01)
The Neolithic Transition to village life and food production first emerged in the Fertile Crescent (c.10th and early 9th millennium BCE) and fundamentally reshaped human history. Although this transition involved major changes in human lifestyle, the social organization and traditions of the earliest sedentary communities is poorly understood. Here, we investigate genetic relatedness patterns among co-buried individuals within domestic structures in Neolithic Anatolia by studying 22 newly generated ancient ...
