ELASTIC-PLASTIC EXPANSION OF A SPHERICAL-SHELL WITH NONLINEAR HARDENING
GAMER, U; TEKKAYA, AE (1989-01-01)
Subject of this paper is the quasi-analytical treatment of the elastic-plastic spherical shell whose inner surface is heated slowly. The hardening behavior of the material is presumed isotropic, but it need not be specified beyond that. A first plastic region forms at the inner surface, and, for not too thick-walled shells, a second plastic region appears at the outer surface. The general results are specialized to linear hardening and thereafter to Swift's hardening law with the power one half. Numerical r...
Elastic analysis of orthotropic cylinders under different boundary conditions
Farukoğlu, Ömer Can; Eraslan, Ahmet Nedim; Department of Engineering Sciences (2016)
Analytical solutions are derived to examine the elastic responses of fixed end cylinders made of orthotropic materials. Cylinders are investigated under different boundary conditions which are internal pressure, external pressure, combined pressure and annular rotation respectively. Making use of Maxwell relations, orthotropic cylinders are transformed to isotropic ones. In order to exhibit numerical examples different orthotropic materials are used and compared. It is observed that orthotrophy slightly inf...

Elastic-plastic finite element analysis of semi-hot forging dies
Halisçelik, Murat; Darendeliler, Haluk; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2009)
Semi-hot or warm forging is an economical alternative to the conventional forging processes by combining advantages of hot and cold forging processes. In this study, a new forging process sequence and design of the preform die for a part which has been produced by hot forging are proposed to be produced by semi-hot forging. Thermo-mechanical finite element analyses are performed over the stages of forging process. The billet and the dies are modeled as elastic-plastic bodies. Effects of preform die geometry...
ELASTIC-PLASTIC STRESS ANALYSIS OF NONHOMOGENEOUS ROTATING SOLID DISCS
Eraslan, Ahmet Nedim; Gulgec, Mufit (2008-09-01)
A computational model is developed for the analysis of elastic and partially plastic stress states in functionally graded (FGM) variable thickness rotating solid disks. The modulus of elasticity, Poisson's ratio, uniaxial yield limit and density of the disk material are assumed to vary radially in any prescribed functional forms. Small deformations and a state of plane stress are presumed. Using the von Mises yield criterion, total deformation theory and a Swift-type nonlinear hardening law, a single nonlin...
