The bromination reaction of p-benzoquinone-fused norbornadiene was studied at various temperatures (-78, 50, 0, 25, and 77 degrees C). At room temperature, the double bonds of the p-benzoquinone units were mainly brominated. The double bond of the norbornene unit also underwent a bromination reaction in a yield of only 2%. However, the reaction at -78 degrees C resulted in the formation of products derived from the attack of bromine on the norbornene double bond with higher charge density. In contrast to the bromination reaction, the epoxidation reaction of the same compound with m-chloroperbenzoic acid and dimethyldioxirane exclusively resulted in the formation of products derived from the addition to the double bond of norbornadiene. The regioselectivity observed was investigated and the results were supported by theoretical calculations.

Analysis of the specific heat of p-azoxyanisole (PAA) near the phase transitions
Kilit, E.; Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Informa UK Limited, 2010-01-01)
The analysis of the experimental data for the specific heat Cp at various temperatures is given here near the nematic-isotropic liquid (TNI = 133.9 degrees C) and the solid-nematic (TSN = 117.6 degrees C) transitions in p-azoxyanisole (PAA). The analysis of the specific heat Cp is performed according to a simple power-law formula and a renormalisation-group expression. The values of the critical exponent are extracted above and below the transition temperatures of TNI and TSN for this liquid crystalline mat...
Simultaneous thermogravimetry-calorimetry study on the combustion of coal samples: Effect of heating rate
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2012-01-01)
Combustion characteristics of two different coal samples were investigated using power compensating type differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TG-DTG) at different heating rates (5, 10 and 15 degrees C/min). Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TG-DTG) curves revealed two main reaction regions at each heating rate studied. Reaction regions, peak and burn-out temperatures, weight loss and heat of reactions of the samples were determined. Kinetic parameters of ...
Changes in the physicochemical properties of high pressure treated rainbow trout
Erkan, Nuray; Alpas, Hami; Uretener, Gonca; Selcuk, Arif; Buzrul, Sencer (2010-09-01)
Changes in the physicochemical quality of rainbow trout's High pressure (HP)treated at 220, 250 and 330 MPa, 7, 15 and 25 degrees C for 5 and 10 min were investigated. HP-treated rainbow trout's showed significantly increased L* value relative to untreated rainbow trout's. Little changes in colour (a* value) were observed, compared to untreated rainbow trout's, which did not showed b* values. From tests of chemical properties, HP-treated rainbow trout's did not showed or showed significantly decreased thiob...
Reactivity of CO2 during thermal cracking of heavy paraffins under supercritical conditions
Karakaş, Gürkan; Doğu, Timur (1997-11-01)
Thermal cracking of n-hexadecane was investigated in a temperature range of 450-600 degrees C in the presence of CO2. Effects of pressure and temperature on product distribution were experimentally determined under both subcritical and supercritical conditions. At 1.2 MPa and with a CO2 to n-C-16 mole ratio of 25, C-6-C-14 olefins, C-10-C-17 paraffins, and C-5-C-10 fatty acids were identified in the liquid product. Experiments conducted at 4.5 MPa (supercritical) yielded higher selectivities for fatty acids...
Afterglow, TL and OSL properties of Mn2+-doped ZnGa2O4 phosphor

Zinc gallate (ZnGa2O4) spinel ceramics doped with Mn2+ ions was prepared by a solid-state reaction at 1200 degrees C in air. Manganese concentration was equal to 0.05 mol.% of MnO with respect to ZnO. Ceramics produced in this way show an efficient green emission at about 505 nm under UV or X-ray excitations, which is caused by Mn2+ ions. This green emission is observed also as a relatively long afterglow (visible to the naked eye in the dark for about one hour) after switching-off the X-ray excitation. Tim...
