The conversion of monomer to its polymer may not be complete and residual monomer is left over in the polymeric matrix; this, in turn, affects the properties of the polymeric matrix. In this study, we wanted to compare residual monomer content of the unreinforced conventional heat-polymerized and microwave-polymerized acrylic resins with those of fiber-reinforced ones. High performance liquid chromatography was used for the determination of the residual monomer content. Statistical analysis of the results was carried out with a confidence level of 95%. It was observed that conventional heat-polymerized denture base resin resulted in a relatively higher residual monomer content than the microwaved one. Conventional heat-polymerized denture base resin with fiber reinforcement caused an increase in the residual monomer content. Furthermore, the change in the residual monomer content of microwave-polymerized denture base resin with fiber reinforcement was not statistically significant compared with no fiber reinforcement. Electrochemical synthesis of crowned conducting polymers : nature of radical cations in polymerization and mechanism of conductivity
Cihaner, Atilla; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar; Department of Chemistry (2004)
Poly(dibenzo-18-crown-6) (Poly(DB18C6)) was synthesized by electrochemical oxidation of dibenzo-18-crown-6 (DB18C6) using a mixture of acetonitrile and dichloromethane as solvent and tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TBABF4) or tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate (TBAPF6) as supporting electrolyte. The anodic polymerization of DB18C6 was investigated using in-situ ESR and in-situ UV-VIS spectroscopic techniques. Spectroelectrochemical (SPEL) properties and thermal analysis of the resulting polymers h...
Conducting polymer composites of polypyrrole and polyimide
Selampinar, F; Akbulut, Ural; Toppare, Levent Kamil (1997-01-01)
A conducting composite of polypyrrole with a polyimide as the insulating matrix polymer was prepared via electrochemical methods. The characterization of the composite was done by FTIR, SEM and TGA studies. Conductivity and solubility studies together with spectroscopic methods reveal that a chemical interaction between the two polymers exists.
Proquinoidal-Conjugated Polymer as an Effective Strategy for the Enhancement of Electrical Conductivity and Thermoelectric Properties

P-doping of conjugated polymers requires electron transfer from the conjugated polymer to the p-dopant. This implies that the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) of the conjugated polymer has to be higher than the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of the p-dopant. Although commonly used p-dopants such as 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (F4TCNQ) have a low LUMO of -5.24 eV, most conjugated polymers used in high-performance field-effect transistors are donor- acceptor-type ...
LIQUID-LIQUID EQUILIBRIA OF TERNARY-SYSTEMS OF WATER PLUS ACETONE AND C-5-ALCOHOL AND C-8-ALCOHOL AT 298-K, 303-K AND 308-K
TIRYAKI, A; GURUZ, G; ORBEY, H (1994-03-15)
Ternary liquid-liquid phase equilibria (LLE) of water and acetone with 1-octanol, 2-octanol, 1-pentanol and isopentanol (3-methyl-1-butanol) at 298, 303 and 308 K are presented. With the exception of water + acetone + 1-octanol at 303 K, these systems have not been previously investigated at these temperatures. The data are successfully correlated using the NRTL model. The UNIFAC predictive model was also tested with the various group parameter databases.
Controlled release of vancomycin from biodegradable microcapsules
Ozalp, Y; Ozdemir, N; Kocagoz, S; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat (2001-01-01)
Poly D,L-lactic acid (PLA) and its copolymers with glycolide PLGA 90:10 and 70:30 were polymerized under various conditions to yield polymers in the molecular weight range 12 000-40 000 daltons, as determined by gel permeation chromatography. Vancomycin hydrochloride was the hydrophilic drug of choice for the treatment of methicillin resistant Staphyloccoccal infections. It was microencapsulated in the synthesized polymers using water-oil-water (w/o/w) double emulsion and solvent evaporation. The influence ...
