Heat exchanger network synthesis with detailed design : reformulation as a shortest path problem by temperature discretization
Kirkizoğlu, Işıl; İyigün, Cem; Süral, Haldun; Department of Industrial Engineering (2012)
This study presents an optimization approach to heat exchanger network synthesis (HENS). HENs are widely used in industry and bring several fluid streams into their desired temperatures by using available heat in the process for efficient usage of energy. Our aim is to provide a network design coupled with a detailed equipment design for heat exchangers. The suggested approach involves discretization of temperatures based on heat load equalities and reformulation as a shortest-path problem, rather than deal...
Improvement of protein stability and enzyme recovery under stress conditions by using a small HSP (tpv-HSP 14.3) from Thermoplasma volcanium
Kocabıyık, Semra (2012-11-01)
In this study we cloned and expressed a small heat shock protein, tpv-HSP 14.3, from thermoacidophilic archaeon Thermoplasma volcanium. This novel recombinant small heat shock protein was purified to homogeneity and produced a protein band of 14.3 kDa on SDS-polyacrylamide gel. Transmission electron microscopy images of the negatively stained tpv-EISP 14.3 samples showed spherical particles of 13 nm diameter. E. coli cells over expressing tpv-HSP 14.3 endowed the cells with some degree of thermotolerance. A...
SPECTROSCOPIC MODIFICATIONS OF PIPPARD RELATIONS AND THEIR APPLICATION TO NH4CL
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (1994-07-01)
The Pippard relations have been reformulated in terms of the spectroscopic parameters and applied to the NH4Cl system in the vicinity of its lambda-transition. We have effectively tested some of these relations in an earlier study where we have used, for the frequency shift, data for the nu5 lattice mode of NH4Cl. Here, using our observed frequency shifts for the internal mode, nu2 of NH4+, we have obtained a good fit to the Pippard relations for temperatures below T(lambda) for the NH4Cl system. We have th...
Experimental study on stress concentration factors in single and groups of end bearing and floating stone columns
Çekinmez, Zeynep; Erol, Ahmet Orhan; Toker, Nabi Kartal; Department of Civil Engineering (2014)
In this study, small scale model tests were performed in order to observe effects of column length and undrained shear strength on settlement reduction ratios at different zones, as well as the stress concentration factor. In these tests different loading conditions, i.e. single stone column loading, unit cell loading and group loading, were studied. Stress carried by stone columns under various foundation pressures were directly measured by soil pressure transducers. Surface and subsurface settlements were...
Electrochemical Synthesis of Poly(methylsilyne) and Investigation of the Effects of Parameters on the Synthesis
EROĞLU PALA, DAMLA; Nur, Yusuf; Bayram, Göknur; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Wiley, 2010-12-05)
This study aims to synthesize poly(methylsilyne) by electrochemical reduction of methyltrichlorosilane at a constant potential of -6 V, while investigating the effects of parameters such as the nature of the electrode, solvent and supporting electrolyte, the monomer/solvent ratio, and the reaction time on the properties of the products. The polymer was characterized by H-1-NMR (Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy), FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy), UV-Visible Spectroscopy, and TGA (...
