Variation of the reactivity of a solid reactant due to changes in number of working active sites and pore structure was represented by a deactivation model. The model was shown to give good aggreement with the experimental data obtained for the gasification of chars of different lignites. All the kinetic data obtained at different temperatures (800 degrees-950 degrees C) and also for different types of coals were represented with a single generalized relation. The increase of the surface area of the char at the initial stages of gasification did not cause a corresponding increase in the reaction rate. Results indicated that the surface was composed of highly reactive and less reactive sites. It was shown that the reactivity of unit surface area of the solid reactant first showed a rapid decrease due to decrease of number of more reactive sites at the initial stages and then reached to about one fourth of its initial value.

Thermal decomposition of polystyrene-b-poly(2-vinylpyridine) coordinated to co nanoparticles
Elmaci, Ayşegül; Hacaloğlu, Jale; Kayran, Ceyhan; Sakellariou, Georgios; Hadjichristidis, Nikos (2009-11-01)
Direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry analyses of polystyrene-block-poly(2-vinylpyridne), PS-b-P2VP, indicated that the thermal degradation of each component occurred independently through the decomposition pathways proposed for the corresponding homopolymers; depolymerization for PS and depolymerization and loss of protonated oligomers for P2VP by a more complex degradation mechanism. On the other hand, upon coordination to cobalt nanoparticles, thermal decomposition of the P2VP blocks was initiated by loss o...
Epoxidation of Propylene on a [Ag14O9] Cluster Representing Ag2O (001) Surface: A Density Functional Theory Study
Fellah, Mehmet Ferdi; Önal, Işık (2012-01-01)
Density functional theory calculations were employed to study partial oxidation of propylene on a [Ag14O9] cluster representing Ag2O (001) surface for which positive effect for ethylene oxide formation has been reported in our earlier work at the same level of theory (Fellah et al., Catal Lett 141: 762, 2011). Propylene oxide (PO), propanal, acetone and G-allyl radical formation reaction mechanisms were investigated. P-allyl formation path and two propylene adsorption paths resulting in PO formation are com...
Peptide stapling by late-stage Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling
Gruss, Hendrik; Feiner, Rebecca C.; Mseya, Ridhiwan; Schroeder, David C.; Jewginski, Michat; Mueller, Kristian M.; Latajka, Rafat; Marıon, Antoıne; Sewald, Norbert (2022-01-01)
The development of peptide stapling techniques to stabilise alpha-helical secondary structure motifs of peptides led to the design of modulators of protein-protein interactions, which had been considered undruggable for a long time. We disclose a novel approach towards peptide stapling utilising macrocyclisation by late-stage Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of bromotryptophan-containing peptides of the catenin-binding domain of axin. Optimisation of the linker length in order to find a compromise between both...
Specific Heat of NH4Cl and NH4BrxCl1-x Crystals Close to the Ferro-Ordered Phase
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2009-04-01)
This study gives calculation of the specific heat C-VI of NH4Cl and NH4BrxCl1-x under the Ising model for the transition between the disordered (D) and ferro-ordered O(F) phases in these crystalline systems. Our C-VI values which we calculated for x = 0 and x = 0.04, agree both below and above T-c with the observed C-p data from the literature. Our value of a congruent to 0.1 (T < T-c and T > T-c) is in good agreement with the predicted value of 1/8 (0.125) of a 3D Ising model.
Electrosynthesis of polyfuran in acetonitrile-boron trifluoride-ethyl ether mixture and its device application
Tirkeş, Süha; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (Wiley, 2007-01-15)
Electrochemical polymerization of furan was achieved in acetonitrile/boron trifluoride/ethyl ether (CH3 CN/BF3/EE) mixture in the presence of tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate via constant potential electrolysis at 1.4 V versus Ag/AgCl. Electrochemical behavior of furan was investigated in the same solvent mixture of varying ratios, utilizing cyclic voltammetry. Free-standing polyfuran (PFu) films were obtained in CH3CN/BF3/EE mixture (2/4/4; v/v/v) and characterized using FTIR spectroscopic technique. S...
