This paper investigates the impacts of stimulated reservoir volume (SRV) on reservoir performance for unconventional hydraulically fractured formations. It focuses also on the effects of different petrophysical properties of SRV as well as different volume and petrophysical properties of unstimulated part of porous media (USRV). The influences of hydraulic fracture conductivity, fracture assymmetricity, and non-Darcy flow permeability in reservoir pressure profile have been substantially studied in this paper. Stimulated reservoir volume represents the volume of porous media where complex network structures formed from naturally induced fractures, multiple hydraulic fractures, and original matrix. SRV is characterized by an induced or a stimulated matrix permeability which is typically greater than the original matrix permeability. The formations of interest, in this study, are considered having either stimulated reservoir volume only or both stimulated and un-stimulated reservoir volumes and depleted by multiple hydraulic fractures controlled by non-Darcy flow.

Analysis of pressure behaviors and flow regimes of naturally and hydraulically fractured unconventional gas reservoirs using multi-linear flow regimes approach
Al-Rbeawi, Salam (2017-09-01)
This paper targets the applicability of multi-linear flow regimes approach in gas reservoirs having multiple porous media: matrix, natural fractures, and hydraulic fractures. The approach attempts to understand pressure profiles and flow regimes developed in some of unconventional shale layers that have already been naturally fractured. In this paper, the main focus is given to fluid flow phenomenon from the matrix towards naturally induced fractures and from these fractures to the hydraulic fractures. Stud...
Productivity-Index Behavior for Hydraulically Fractured Reservoirs Depleted by Constant Production Rate Considering Transient-State and Semisteady-State Conditions
Al-Rbeawi, Salam (2018-11-01)
This paper introduces a new approach for studying productivity-index (PI) behavior of fractured oil and gas reservoirs during transientand pseudosteady-state conditions. This approach focuses on the fact that PI derivative could vanish at a certain production time, indicating the beginning of pseudosteady state, wherein the PI demonstrates constant value. The reservoirs in this study are considered depleted by horizontal wells intersecting multiple hydraulic fractures where Darcy flow and non-Darcy flow may...
Non-destructive evaluation of residual stresses in the multi-pass steel weldments
Erian, Gökhan; Gür, Cemil Hakan; Batıgün, Caner; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2012)
The purpose of this thesis is non-destructive determination of residual stress state in the multi-pass welded steel plates by Magnetic Barkhausen Noise (MBN) technique. To control the effectiveness of the developed procedure, continuous MBN measurements on the heat affected zone and parent metal of the welded plates were performed. In the experimental part, various steel plates were welded with different number of weld passes. Various series of samples were prepared for residual stress and for angular defle...
An approach for the performance-impact of parent-child wellbores spacing and hydraulic fractures cluster spacing in conventional and unconventional reservoirs
Al-Rbeawi, Salam (Elsevier BV, 2020-02-01)
The objective of this paper is focusing deep insights on the impacts of the spacing between parent and child wellbores and between hydraulic fractures on the performance of conventional and unconventional reservoirs. The target is developing a quantitative approach for determining these impacts on pressure responses, flow regimes, and productivity indices during the entire production life of these reservoirs. The motivation of this study is the willing to set-up and define clearly the criteria for the optim...
Delamination of layered materials under impact loading
Dinç, Dinçer; Kalkanlı, Ali; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2003)
In this study, a cold worked tool steel and a low carbon steel ( St 37 ), which were joined by brazing, were subjected to impact and shear loading. The end product is used as paper cutting blades in the industry. Effects of different brazing filler metals on the delamination of the blades under impact loading and on the impact toughness of the blades were studied. The target is to achieve higher impact toughness values without delamination. Impact toughness of the steels, joined by Cu, CuNi and BNi brazing ...
