A new technique for rapid measurement of continuous soil moisture characteristic curves
Toker, Nabi Kartal; Sjoblom, K.J.; Culligan, P.J. (2004-01-01)
The soil moisture characteristic (SMC) curve of a soil describes the relationship between the soil suction (tension in the soil pore water) and its water content. The majority of traditional methods used to obtain SMC curves involve gathering individual point measurements of soil water content over a range of applied soil suctions, and then fitting a curve through these points. Each point measurement requires at least a day of testing to gather, leading to a total testing time of weeks to assemble the whole...
A new method for processing of monazite and examination of the products by X-ray analysis
Kizilyalli, Meral; Welch, Alastair J. (Elsevier BV, 1987-1)
Sintering reactions of lanthanide orthophosphates with Na2CO3 gave the expected products (Na3PO4 and Ln2O3) with stoichiometric amounts of Na2CO3. When less than the theoretical amounts of Na2CO3 were used, two intermediate products eventually characterized by X-ray diffraction as Na3Ln(PO4)2 and Ln3PO7 were detected. Application of the sintering method to naturally occurring phosphates, particularly the mineral monazite, proved to be very successful. By using the optimum amount of Na2CO3 to form Na3Ln(PO4)...
A New Method for Leakage Inductance Calculation of Transverse Flux Machines
Zafarani, Mohsen; Moallem, Mehdi; Ghadamyari, Mohammad Adib (2011-09-10)
This paper presents a new analytical method for leakage inductance calculation of transverse flux permanent magnet machines. In this method, leakage flux paths are predicted base on the finite element results, and then all paths would be modeled by flux tubes. Finally, the inductance of the machine would be obtained by calculation of the permeance of flux tubes. The validity of the proposed model is verified by comparing the Finite Element results with the results obtained from the proposed approach. Compar...
A new method for alcohol content determination of fuel oils by terahertz spectroscopy
Arik, E.; KORAL, Can; Altan, Hakan; Esentürk, Okan (2013-09-06)
In this study, we developed a simple method for alcohol content analysis in fuel oils by Time-Domain Terahertz (THz) Spectroscopy. Frequency dependent absorption coefficients, refractive indices, and dielectric constants were calculated from the measurements of pure fuel oils and their mixtures with ethanol. Ethanol mixtures of gasoline were modeled successfully with a simple model in which the mixture behavior was described with a basic contribution approach of pure liquids. The results suggest that there ...
A new method for signal interpolation
Tuncer, Temel Engin (2006-04-19)
Interpolation is an important problem of signal processing. Even though there are several methods for interpolation, it is still an open problem. In this paper, we propose a new method for interpolation with certain advantages compared to the previous methods. The proposed method is based on the least squares error optimum design of the interpolating filter. Interpolating filter is chosen as the Kaiser filter since it can be configured in a variety of shapes by the appropriate choice of cut-off and shape pa...
