Status of the CHORUS neutrino oscillation experiment

1999-01-01
Pesen, E
The CHORUS experiment is designed to search for nu(mu) --> nu(tau) oscillation with a hybrid detector system containing 800 kg nuclear emulsions as target and vertex detector. Run I (320 000 recorded nu(mu)CC in 1994/5) and more than half of the run II (460 000 nu(mu)CC in 1996/7) data taking have been successfully completed. Approximately 80 000 events have been analyzed so far, searching for tau(-) --> mu(-)(mu)nu(tau) and tau(-) --> h(-)(n pi(0))nu(tau) decays. No candidate has been found, leading to a limit sin(2) 2 theta(mu tau) less than or equal to 4.5 10(-3) for large Delta m(2).

A search for nu(mu)->nu(tau) oscillation
Eskut, E; et. al. (Elsevier BV, 1998-04-01)
CHORUS is an experiment searching for nu(mu) --> nu(tau) oscillation in the CERN wide band neutrino beam with a hybrid setup consisting of a nuclear emulsion target followed by electronic detectors. The experiment has been taking data from 1994 through 1997. A subset of the neutrino interactions collected in 1994 and 1995 have been analyzed, looking for nu(tau) charged current interactions where the tau lepton decays to mu(mu)nu(tau). In a sample of 31,423 nu(mu) charged current interactions, no nu(tau) can...
Search for neutral resonances decaying into a Z boson and a pair of b jets or tau leptons
Khachatryan, V.; et. al. (Elsevier BV, 2016-08-01)
A search is performed for a new resonance decaying into a lighter resonance and a Z boson. Two channels are studied, targeting the decay of the lighter resonance into either a pair of oppositely charged tau leptons or a b (b) over bar pair. The Z boson is identified via its decays to electrons or muons. The search exploits data collected by the CMS experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.8 fb(-1). No significant deviations are observed from the standar...
Determination of the semi-leptonic branching fraction of charm hadrons produced in neutrino charged-current interactions
Kayis-Topaksu, A; et. al. (Elsevier BV, 2002-11-01)
During the years 1994-1997, the emulsion target of the CHORUS detector was exposed to the CERN-SPS Wide Band Neutrino Beam. The improvements of the past few years in the automatic emulsion scanning systems allowed a sample of events located in emulsion to be used for studies of charm production. Based on a sample of 56 172nu(mu) charged-current interactions analysed so far, we find a value of B-mu = 0.093+/-0.009(stat.) +/-0.009(syst.) for the semi-leptonic branching fraction of charm hadrons. The result fo...
Final results on nu(mu)->nu(tau) oscillation from the CHORUS experiment
EŞKUT, EDA; et. al. (Elsevier BV, 2008-04-01)
The final oscillation analysis of the complete set of data collected by CHORUS in the years 1994-1997 is presented. Reconstruction algorithms of data extracted by electronic detectors were improved and the data recorded in the emulsion target were analysed by new automated scanning systems, allowing the use of a new method for event reconstruction in emulsion. CHORUS has applied these new techniques to the sample of 1996-1997 events for which no muons were observed in the electronic detectors. Combining the...
Observation of coherent pi(0) electroproduction on deuterons at large momentum transfer
Tomasi-Gustafsson, E; Bimbot, L; Danagoulian, S; Gustafsson, K; Mack, D; Mkrtchyan, H; Rekalo, MP (Pleiades Publishing Ltd, 2003-12-01)
The first experimental results for the coherent pi(0) electroproduction on a deuteron, e + d --> e + d + pi(0), at large momentum transfer, are reported. The experiment was performed at Jefferson Laboratory at an incident electron energy of 4.05 GeV. A large pion production yield has been observed in the kinematical region 1.1 < Q(2) < 1.8 GeV2, from the threshold to 200-MeV excitation energy in the dpi(0) system. The Q(2) dependence is compared with theoretical predictions. (C) 2003 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiod...
