Assessment of Cloud Services: An Economic Perspective

2016-07-21
Sezgin, Emre
There is an increasing demand to cloud services in the market. In terms of cost and benefit, it is obvious that cloud services lowered investment cost and fixed cost for businesses. Thus, an economic perspective towards cloud services is required for strategic decisions. In this paper, a preliminary evaluation of cloud services was presented, and the common economic issues were identified. Regarding to these issues, the latency was addressed from the economic perspective, and a testing environment was created and implemented in 5 different cases. The results were given in the paper outlining impact of latency in terms of concurrent users and bandwidth allocation. Finally, an alternative cost estimation was proposed.

For many years, forecasting the sales has been thought as a significant fundamental for the companies that operate in fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector. Companies that are successful in predicting their sales, also have the strength to manage company’s financials. Also, companies have the chance to react to tough situations that they might face. In the academic literature, there exist many studies about forecasting the future of sales. However, there are limited studies about how the companies foreca...
Compensation of Friction Effects in Gyro-Stabilized Motion Platforms
Sincar, Eyyup; Balkan, Raif Tuna; Platin, Bülent Emre (2015-07-03)
A frequent problem encountered in the stabilization of gyro-stabilized motion platforms is the disturbance rejection associated with moving components. Due to relative motion of adjacent components, friction is induced by the destabilizing force from the base motion to the stabilized object, degrading its motion accuracy. Hence, a compensation of frictional effects is necessary in order to obtain a highly precise stabilization performance. In this paper, applications of both single-state disturbance observe...

Providing automated and networked solutions on the cloud will remarkably facilitate ongoing digitalization efforts in Metrology and the calibration industry. The AutoRFPower application was developed to automate the RF power measurement process and uncertainty calculations. This study presents our ongoing research on moving this application to a cloud environment and adapting it to perform power sensor calibrations. The cloud-based application initiates communication with calibration equipment, transfers te...

Assessing Information Technology Use in Organizations: Developing a Framework
Sezgin, Emre; Özkan Yıldırım, Sevgi (2011-10-07)
Increasing use of current and developing information technologies (IT) within business and production processes is a required transformation to survive in the market. However. IT should be well-managed to be adapted by an organization as a whole. This study proposes a new model for the assessment of IT use in organizations. The aim is to assist decision making processes in information technology management through exploring strength and weaknesses of organization on IT tools and applications. The model has ...
