Investigation of the effects of folk medicinal plant Epilobium Hirsutum L. on cytochrome P450 dependent and antioxidant enzymes : a molecular approach
Karakurt, Serdar; Adalı, Orhan; Şen, Alaattin; Department of Biochemistry (2013)
The genus Epilobium sp. (Onagraceae) is widely distributed all over the world and consists of nearly 200 species. Epilobium hirsutum L. (EH) one of the members of this genus is known as its analgesic, anti-microbial and anti-proliferative activity and it is used in our country as an alternative medicine. The pharmacological effect of EH could be explained by the presence of polyphenolics including steroids, tannins and flavonoids in the aerial parts. Cytochrome P450s (CYPs) known as phase I enzymes have imp...
Comparative leaf anatomy of the genus Hordeum L. (Poaceae)
Mavi, D. Ozlem; Doğan, Musa; Cabi, Evren (2011-01-01)
The genus Hordeum L., one of the most economically important cereal crops in the tribe Triticeae, has a worldwide distribution mainly in temperate and dry regions of the world. In Turkey, Hordeum is represented by 12 taxa, namely Hordeum violaceum Boiss. & Hohen., H. geniculatum All., H. marinum var. marinum, H. marinum Hudson var. pubescent (Guss.) Nevski, H. murinum L. subsp. murinum, H. murinum subsp. glaucum (Steudel) Tzvelev, H. murinum subsp. leporinum (Link) Arc. var. leporinum, H. murinum subsp. lep...
Taxonomic studies on the genus salvia l. (labiatae) in central anatolia, Turkey
Bagherpour, Safı; Doğan, Musa; Department of Biology (2010)
This research study is a revision of the genus Salvia (Labiatae) in Central Anatolia. The author has carried out extensive research studies conducted in a 3 year period starting from June 2005 by collecting specimens from all the localities in Central Anatolia, Turkey. Specimens collected from Turkey by the other researchers and kept either in Turkey or abroad were also examined. The samples were studied using their root, stem and leaf morphology including essential characteristics of flowers. Using this in...
Plasmalemma from the roots of cucumber: Isolation by two-phase partitioning and characterization
Memon, Abdul Razaque; Sommarin, Marianne; Kylin, Anders (Wiley, 1987-2)
Plasmalemma was isolated from the roots of 2‐week‐old cucumber plants (Cucumis sativus L. cv. Rhensk druv) by utilizing an aqueous polymer two‐phase system with 6.5%:6.5% (w/w) Dextran T500 and polyethylene glycol (PEG) 3350 at pH 7.8. The plasmalemma fraction comprised ca 6% of the membrane proteins contained in the microsomal fraction. The specific activity of the plasma membrane marker enzyme (K+, Mg2+‐ATPase) was 14‐ to 17‐times higher in the upper (PEG‐rich) than in the lower (Dextran‐rich) phase, and ...
Geochemistry and petrogenesis of intrusive and extrusive ophiolitic plagiogranites, Central Anatolian Crystalline Complex, Turkey
Floyd, PA; Yaliniz, MK; Göncüoğlu, Mehmet Cemal (1998-03-01)
Plagiogranites associated with the Sarikaraman ophiolite of the Central Anatolian Crystalline Complex, Turkey, closely resemble other plagiogranites from supra-subduction zone-type ophiolites of Neotethys, The ophiolite is remarkable in displaying a higher proportion of the plagiogranite suite (ca. 10% by volume) than is usually associated with such bodies. The Sarikaraman plagiogranites are represented by intrusive sheets and netvein trondhjemites largely developed at the top of the upper gabbros and as mu...
