Samples of YBa2Cu3O7-delta, having about 30% Y2BaCuO5, were prepared with a melt-process method by adding B2O3 up to 0.5 wt% to the oxides. The structural and superconducting properties of the samples were studied by x-ray diffraction, x-ray fluorescence, scanning electron microscope, magnetization and magneto-optic techniques. B2O3 additions during the melt-processing enlarge intergrain regions that weaken the conduction links between the grains. T-c drops by 1.0-6.0 K, and at 50 K J(c) decreases from about 1.6 x 10(4) to 1.8 x 10(3) A cm(-2) with B2O3 additions up to 0.5 wt%. A secondary peak was observed in the J(c) versus field plot of the boron-free sample that decreases with boron additions. At 50 K the intragrain J(c) values of the boron-free sample were about 12% higher than the intergrain J(c) value, and such differences increase with B2O3 additions. These observations, together with the enlargements of the intergrain regions with B2O3 additions, suggest that most of the boron atoms take part and reside at grain boundaries.

Effect of calcium carbonate addition on carbothermic formation of hexagonal boron nitride
ÇAMURLU, HASAN ERDEM; SEVİNÇ, NACİ; Topkaya, Yavuz Ali (Elsevier BV, 2008-01-01)
Effect of CaCO3 on formation of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) was investigated by holding CaCO3 free and CaCO3 added activated carbon-boric oxide mixtures under nitrogen atmosphere at 1500 degrees C for 30-120 min. Amount of CaCO3 addition was varied in the range of 0-50 wt.% of the initial mixture. Products were characterized by powder X-ray diffractometry, FT-IR analysis, quantitative chemical analysis, scanning electron microscopy and BET specific surface area analysis. It was observed that calcium carb...
Effect of lithium doping on the properties of Tl-based superconductors
Kayed, TS; Ozkan, H; Hasanlı, Nızamı (IOP Publishing, 2001-09-01)
The effects of lithium doping on the formation and properties of the T1-based superconductors have been studied. Lithium atoms up to around 3 mol.% have been added to the oxides of nominal composition Tl1.8Ba2Ca2.2Cu3Ox, and the usual solid-state reaction method has been applied. Lithium additions in the range 0.23-0.29 mol.% increase the fraction of the Tl-2223 phase and significantly improve the critical temperature of the samples. Higher amounts of lithium additions diminish the Tl-2223 phase, reduce the...
Effect of the number of cycles on the optical and structural properties of Mn3O4 nanostructures obtained by SILAR technique
BAYRAM, ÖZKAN; Simsek, Onder; GÜNEY, HARUN; İĞMAN, ERDAL; Ozer, Mustafa Murat (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2018-06-01)
In this study, nanostructured Mn3O4 (manganese oxide) thin films were successfully obtained by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) method on the soda lime glass substrates using Manganese Nitrate (Mn(NO3)(2)) and Ammonium hydroxide (NH4(OH)) as cationic and anionic precursors respectively. Structural and morphological characterizations of the Mn3O4 films obtained at different cycles were determined using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The crystal structure...
Evolution of magnetic and structural properties of TiO2 with Co-doping
Topal, Ugur; Ozkan, Husnu; Bakan, Halil I.; Cankur, Oktay; Topal, Kevser (Elsevier BV, 2008-03-15)
This paper presents the phase formations and magnetic properties of Co-doped TiO2 synthesized by the colloidal and ammonium nitrate melt techniques (ANMT). The phase formations and ferromagnetic properties were studied with XRD and SQUID magnetometry. Crystallization of the TiO2 rutile lattice was completed at 1000 degrees C and that was preserved during annealing up to 1300 degrees C. For the samples annealed at 1200 degrees C, elemental analysis has shown that the colloidal technique leads to a single-pha...
Effect of gramicidin S on the dipalmitoylphosphatidyl-glycerol thermotropic phase transition in DPPG/GS systems: A mathematical approach
Stan, Cristina; Cristescu, C. P.; Severcan, Feride; Dorohoi, Dana (Informa UK Limited, 2006-01-01)
We present a mathematical approach to the experimental data recorded via Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy regarding the influence of the concentration of the antimicrobial peptide gramicidin S (GS) on the thermotropic phase transition of the dipalmitoylphosphatidyl-glycerol (DPPG) lipid bilayer membrane in DPPG/GS systems. The model is based on the influence of the GS concentration on the parameters of a nonlinear damped oscillator, which models the CH2 symmetric stretching band.
