The Yankee-Hood dryer is the crucial section of the paper machine due to the consumption of energy. As a consequence of continuously increasing energy costs, determination of the proper operating conditions is essential to operate the tissue machine in the most efficient and economic means while ensuring paper quality. The objective of this study is to evaluate the Yankee-Hood dryer in 'lpekkagit' tissue paper factory, set the mass and energy balances and make optimization studies in order to achieve the desired production rate whilst keeping the drying parameters within limits at the minimum energy costs.

Performance of combined cycle power plants with external combustion
Doğan, Osman Tufan; Yeşin, Tülay; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2003)
Externally Fired Combined Cycle (EFCC) is a recent tcehnology which utilizes coal as the primary fuel a gas turbine cycle. EFCC is among the clean coal technologies aiming at improving the coal combustion performance in a cost effective and environmentally friendly manner. Natural gas is used as the supplementary fuel. The ultimate goal of the EFFC concept is coal onyl option, since natural gas can better be utilized in a modern Gas Turbine Combined Cycle (CCGT) plant. In this study, performance of the EFCC...
Life cycle assessment of two different renewable energy systems for a selected region: Bozcaada island
Şentürk, Ayşe Eylül; Oğuz, Elif (2020-01-01)
Energy production without destroying the environment has been one of the most crucial issues for the people living in today'sworld. In order to analyse whole environmental impacts of energy production process, life cycle assessment (LCA) is widely used. In this study, two distinct renewable energy systems are assessed. First, a land-based wind farm which has been operating in Bozcaada Island since 2000 compared with a proposed solar photovoltaic power plant in terms of Energy Pay-Back Time (EPBT) periods an...
Sustainable impact evaluation of energy retrofits for school buildings in different climate regions
Uluçay, Jülide Arzu; Pekeriçli, Mehmet Koray; Department of Building Science in Architecture (2019)
Due to increasing importance of the concepts of energy efficiency and sustainability, retrofits for a large portion of existing buildings have become an immediate necessity. In this respect, different retrofit strategies are employed for increasing the efficiency of existing building envelopes, energy sources, electrical and mechanical systems. Among the existing building types for efficiency retrofit are the school buildings, which differ from the rest due to their special function - education. The activit...
Energy quality management and low energy architecture
Björk, Folke; Kılkış, Şiir; Molinari, Marco (2012-12-31)
This paper puts forth energy quality management as the stepwise process of taking care of the quality of energy better. Energy quality can also be expressed as exergy, which measures the useful work potential of a given amount or flow of energy. Energy quality management is particularly useful to reduce the primary energy use in the built environment. This is achieved by reducing the heating and cooling demand, making use of passive building techniques, exploiting local renewable sources, and utilizing effi...
Development of the rule curve for Altıparmak hydroelectric power plant
Boyacıoğlu, Şerife Ece; Kentel Erdoğan, Elçin; Yanmaz, Ali Melih; Department of Civil Engineering (2013)
Energy requirement of Turkey increases day by day and hydropower is currently the main renewable energy source of the country. Thus, planning the development of the unused hydropower potential of Turkey is critical. Available water resources have to be developed and managed in a wise manner. Reservoir operation rule curves are fundamental guidelines for long term reservoir operation. Rule curve which results in the maximum energy generation has to be developed for each hydropower plant (HEPP). The goal of t...
