Dalci, Mustafa
In this study, we aim to conduct usability tests on different WebMap sites with eye movement analysis. Overall task performance, the effects of iconic representation of information, and the efficiency of pop-up usage were evaluated. The eye tracking technology is used for this Study in order to follow the position of the users' eye-gaze. The results show that there are remarkable differences in task performance between WebMaps. Addition, they also differ in the use of iconic representations according to results of users' evaluation. It is also found that efficiency of pop-up windows' usage has an effect on task performance.

A philosophical analysis of computational modeling in cognitive science
Ürgen, Burcu Ayşen; Bağçe, Samet; Department of Cognitive Sciences (2007)
This study analyses the methodology of computational cognitive modeling as one of the ways of conducting research in cognitive science. The aim of the study is to provide an understanding of the place of computational cognitive models in understanding human cognition. Considering the vast number of computational cognitive models which have been just given to account for some cognitive phenomenon by solely simulating some experimental study and fitting to empirical data, a practice-oriented approach is adopt...
An Eye-Tracking Analysis of Spatial Contiguity Effect in Educational Animations
Altan, Tuğba; Çağıltay, Kürşat (2015-08-07)
The purpose of this study is to examine spatial contiguity effect on multimedia learning with an instructional animation using eye-tracking. The research method was experimental method and the study was conducted with a user group consisting of 12 participants (6 female and 6 male). The data collection tools were a demographic survey, a prior knowledge test, a retention test and an eye-tracker. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and non-parametric statistics including Mann-Whitney...
A systematic review of eye tracking research on multimedia learning
ALEMDAĞ, ECENAZ; Çağıltay, Kürşat (Elsevier BV, 2018-10-01)
This study provides a current systematic review of eye tracking research in the domain of multimedia learning. The particular aim of the review is to explore how cognitive processes in multimedia learning are studied with relevant variables through eye tracking technology. To this end, 52 articles, including 58 studies, were analyzed. Remarkable results are that (1) there is a burgeoning interest in the use of eye tracking technology in multimedia learning research; (2) studies were mostly conducted with co...
An Information theoretic representation of brain connectivity for cognitive state classification using functional magnetic resonance imaging
Önal, Itır; Yarman Vural, Fatoş Tunay; Department of Computer Engineering (2013)
In this study, a new method for analyzing and representing the discriminative information, distributed in functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) data, is proposed. For this purpose, a local mesh with varying size is formed around each voxel, called the seed voxel. The relationships among each seed voxel and its neighbors are estimated using a linear regression equation by minimizing the expectation of the squared error. This squared error coming from linear regression is used to calculate various info...
