This article investigates motives behind cellular phone usage and the satisfaction obtained by users in Turkey. It is suggested that the use of cellular phones as a status symbol is more important than the other motives which affect the level of use negatively. The sample consisted of 630 cellular phone users, 18 years of age or older, randomly selected in the city of Konya. The results verify the importance of status/relaxation and security/sociability as motives for cellular phone usage. While the status/relaxation motive is negatively related, the security/sociability motive indicates a positive relation to the level of total use. Income, previous experience with cellular phones, brand of handset, use at the workplace and in the car are also found to be important in determining the level of usage.

Methods for location prediction of mobile phone users
Keleş, İlkcan; Toroslu, İsmail Hakkı; Department of Computer Engineering (2014)
Due to the increasing use of mobile phones and their increasing capabilities, huge amount of usage and location data can be collected. Location prediction is an important task for mobile phone operators and smart city administrations to provide better services and recommendations. In this work, we have investigated several approaches for location prediction problem including clustering, classification and sequential pattern mining. We propose a sequence mining based approach for location prediction of mobil...
Comparison of classification algorithms for mobile malware detection: market metadata as input source
Baltacı, Nuray; Baykal, Nazife; Acartürk, Cengiz; Department of Information Systems (2014)
The prevalence of mobile devices has been catching the attention of malware authors especially for Android OS supported devices due to its user-centric security policy and open application development strategy for its official application market. In this study, an automated feature-based static analysis method was applied to detect malicious mobile applications on Android devices. The main purpose of the study is to investigate the contribution of other application market metadata to the detection of malici...
A Context-aware application recommendation system for mobile device users
Bayram, Gamze; Koçyiğit, Altan; Department of Information Systems (2015)
Development of smartphones and applications has opened a whole new world for mobile device users. Although this new world has many benefits due to a large diversity, regarding specific application domains, it is getting more complex day by day. In this study, a context-aware application recommendation system that recognizes the situation of users, predicts, and recommends the interactions that are likely to happen by the users in their specific context is developed. The proposed system is based on a hybridi...
A Study on User Perception of Mobile Commerce for Android and iOS Device Users
ÜNAL, PERİN; Taşkaya Temizel, Tuğba; Eren, Pekin Erhan (2015-08-26)
ustomer profiling in the mobile commerce (m-commerce) domain has recently gained importance due to the increased proliferation of smartphones and tablets. One of the major challenges confronting m-commerce developers is the need to know user perceptions of m-commerce applications in order to better design and deliver m-commerce services. In this paper, user perceptions of mobile commerce applications is analyzed based on their gender and the operating system (OS) of the devices in use, which are important f...
Semantic prefetching and caching in 5G
Mehteroğlu, Can; Onur, Ertan; Department of Computer Engineering (2017)
Recent popularity of mobile devices increased the demand for mobile network services and applications that require minimal delay. 5G mobile networks are expected to provide much lesser delay than the present mobile networks. One of the conventional ways for decreasing latency is caching content closer to end users. However, currently deployed methods are not effective enough. In this thesis, we propose a new astute caching strategy that is able to smartly predict subsequent user requests and prefetch necess...
