Baltic cod Gadus morhua otoliths marked with oxytetracycline (OTC) in 1974-1975 had been sectioned and the sections stored in paper envelopes at room temperature in dry, dark conditions. After 40 years of storage, the historic OTC marks were still clearly visible showing that OTC is suitable for long-term chemical marking of otoliths. They were, however, noticeably paler than marks in recently recaptured and archived Baltic G. morhua otoliths, chemically tagged with tetracycline at similar dosage to the historic otoliths. Sinter hardening studies of ASTALOY 85 Mo powder with varying copper contents /
Dinçer, Mehmet; Ögel, Bilgehan; Durlu, Nuri; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2014)
In this thesis study, the effect of sinter hardening on mechanical properties of Astaloy 85 Mo (Fe - 0.85% Mo) powder with addition of 0.8% C and varying copper contents (1% Cu, 2% Cu) was examined. Powder mixes were compacted under 600 MPa. After compaction, the samples were sintered at 1120oC under endogas from methane in an industrial sintering furnace and were sinter-hardened with three different cooling rates (0.5oC/sec., 1.5oC/sec., 3oC/sec.). The study revealed that the cooling rate does not make cri...
Investigation of the effect of orientation and heat treatment on the stress corrosion cracking susceptibility of 7050 aluminium alloy
Çevik, Gül; Doruk, Mustafa; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2004)
In the present work, the effect of variation in specimen orientation and heat treatment on the Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) susceptibility of 7050 aluminum alloy was investigated in 3,5% NaCl solution and under freely corroding conditions. For this purpose, Constant Extension Rate Tests (CERT) was performed on precracked Compact Tension (CT) specimens and the Direct Current Potential Drop technique was applied to measure the crack lengths. In addition to crack length versus time curves, the relationship ...
Zeolite confined palladium(0) nanoclusters as effective and reusable catalyst for hydrogen generation from the hydrolysis of ammonia-borane
Rakap, Murat; Özkar, Saim (2010-02-01)
Zeolite confined palladium(0) nanoclusters were prepared by a two step procedure: incorporation of Pd2+ ions into the zeolite-Y by ion-exchange followed by the reduction of Pd2+ ions in the supercages of zeolite-Y with sodium borohydride at room temperature. Zeolite confined palladium(0) nanoclusters are stable enough to be isolated as solid materials and characterized by ICP-OES, XRD, HRTEM, SEM, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and N-2 adsorption technique. These nanoclusters are isolable, redispersible a...
Characterization of magnetite thin films produced by sol-gel processing
Eken, Ali Erdem; Özenbaş, Ahmet Macit; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2008)
Magnetite (Fe3O4) thin films were prepared by a sol-gel process in which, a solution of iron (III) nitrate dissolved in ethylene glycol was applied on glass substrates by spin coating. Xerogel films were obtained by drying the coated films at 110 °C. The films were sintered between 300 °C and 450 °C in order to observe the phases existing in the films at different temperatures. Coating solution showed Newtonian behaviour and viscosity was found as 0.0215 Pa.s. DTA analysis showed that, sintering temperature...
Hot dynamic consolidation of aifevsi alloy powders
Kotan, Şevkiye Ezgi; Kalkanlı, Ali; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2005)
The experimental alloy powders of 1% Mg treated Al-8Fe-1.8V-8Si were obtained by air atomization. The screen analysis of powders was made by sieves with meshes ranging from +90æm, +63æm, +53æm, +45æm, +38æm to -38æm. Unreinforced and TiC particulate reinforced specimens were produced by hot dynamic consolidation which is known as hot swaging. Powders were canned into pure aluminium tubes of about 10cm length and 2.2cm diameter. Single action and double action cold pressing were applied to some of the specim...
