The petrochemical plant studied in this study is located at an altitude of roughly 2.200 meters from the sea level. Eleven buildings are dispersed over an area of 40.000 m(2). The average temperature in January is -11,4 degrees C and 16,3 degrees C in July. 92 employees work in a shift system (14 days "On" - 14 days "Off") in the plant. Measured L-eq values were in the range of 81,2 to 110,2 dBA. Workplace Index (WPI) was (2,9 / 5,0).

Numerical modeling of balçova geothermal field
Polat, Can; Parlaktuna, Mahmut; Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (2010)
The aim of this study is to construct a numerical reservoir model for Balçova geothermal field, which is located in the İzmir bay area of the Aegean coast. A commercial numerical simulation program, TOUGH2 was utilized with a graphical interface, PETRASIM to model the Balçova geothermal field. Natural state modeling of the field was carried out based on the conceptual model of the field, then history matching of production – injection practices of the field was established for the period of 1996 – 2008. The...
Comparison of sources affecting chemical compositions of aerosol and rainwater at different locations in Turkey
Türküm, Ahmet; PEKEY, BEYHAN; PEKEY, HAKAN; Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal (2008-09-01)
In this study, concentrations of elements and ions were measured in atmospheric aerosol and rainwater samples collected at two rural stations on the Mediterranean and Black Sea coasts of Turkey. The relationship between chemical compositions of atmospheric aerosol and rainwater was investigated using receptor-oriented methods utilizing long-term data collected at the Antalya and Amasra stations in Turkey. Factor analysis performed on aerosol and rainwater data sets yielded that source types affecting chemic...
Uncertainty assessment in projection of the extreme river flows, the case of Ömerli catchment, İstanbul
Engin, Batuhan Eren; Yücel, İsmail; Yılmaz, Ayşen; Department of Earth System Science (2015)
The average temperature at the surface of the Earth has been increasing over the past century due to the increased greenhouse gases concentrations in atmosphere through anthropogenic activities. Rising temperature leads to an increase in evaporation and thus intensifies the components of water cycle which results in extreme flows in different parts of the world through changes in globally averaged precipitation. Projection of extreme flows is very important in this aspect, yet obscurity about many factors t...
Thermal changes in an artificial lake simulated using a one-dimensional numerical model
Yetgin, Mehmet Yücel; Tokyay Sinha, Talia Ekin; Department of Civil Engineering (2017)
This study focuses on release of high temperature water to still water bodies such as lakes and reservoirs. The numerical study is conducted using one dimensional (1D) finite volume code, PROBE. The effect of high temperature water release, effect of wind over the lake in mixture processes, Coriolis’ effect and solar radiation effect are investigated numerically using different scenarios that are relevant to such events observed in cooling operations of nuclear power plants. Code validation is performed by ...
Hydraulic characteristics of tyrolean weirs
Yılmaz, Nazlı Aslıcan; Göğüş, Mustafa; Department of Civil Engineering (2010)
Tyrolean type water-intake structures are widely used on mountain rivers to provide water to hydropower stations. The main concern encountered in these kinds of structures is the amount of water diverted from the main channel and sediment carried by this flow. The diverted flow should not be less than the design discharge of the hydropower station and the amount of the sediment entering the hydraulic system should be minimum. In this study a physical model of a Tyrolean weir was constructed at the Hydromech...
