The single-phase induction machine (SPIM) has the advantage of being powered by a single-phase voltage source. The availability of this power allows it to be widely used: electric household appliances, portable machine tools... However, this type of machine has not yet taken its whole share from various works present until now, in comparison with the three-phase induction machine.

Modelling and Precalculation of Additional Losses of Inverter Fed Asynchronous Induction Machines for Traction Applications
Muellner, F.; Neudorfer, H.; Schmidt, E. (2011-09-10)
The inverter supply of asynchronous induction machines for traction applications has a major influence on both electromagnetic and thermal performance. In addition asynchronous induction machines used with traction drives of rail transportation vehicles have different design strategies compared against commonly used standard machines. Generally, the design of these machines requires high electromagnetic and thermal stress. Thus, the additional losses caused by the inverter have to be considered with the ini...
A new jacobian matrix calculation method to decrease computational time in periodic force response analysis of nonlinear structures
Kızılay, Hazım Sef; Ciğeroğlu, Ender; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2019)
The contact interfaces between the components used in high speed systems such as the turbo machinery cause nonlinear vibrations. In order to understand the dynamic characteristic of nonlinear systems, it is important to perform nonlinear vibration analysis. In nonlinear vibration analysis, due to the properties of nonlinear elements used, it is not possible to calculate the Jacobian matrix analytically or it becomes very complicated and difficult, therefore, Jacobian matrix is calculated as numerically. In ...
A Simple and Novel Modulation Technique Used to Obtain Output Voltage Having a Frequency Multiple of Input Voltage Frequency
Salimi, A.; Mansourpour, S.; Ziar, H.; Afjei, E. (2011-09-10)
This paper introduces a new modulation method that can be adopted to obtain various possible output voltages depending on the switching topology and the voltage inputs available. This method is used to obtain a sinusoidal voltage waveform with a frequency which is a multiple of the frequency of the sinusoidal input voltage. There are various applications that need a variable frequency input and a limitation is that three-phase supply is not always available. A good example to this would be single-phase indu...
A novel approach to detection of some parameters of induction motors
Özlü Ertan, Hatice Gülçin; Colak, Baris (2007-05-05)
This paper describes a novel approach for offline stator leakage inductance and online stator resistance estimation that can be used for self-tuning of induction motor drives. The paper briefly describes the theory behind the approach. The proposed methods are experimentally tested on an industrial induction motor and also tested on a washing machine motor designed for variable speed operation. Test results are given and the robustness of the approach is illustrated.
Development of a large area germanium on insulator platform by liquid phase epitaxy
Özyurt, Zişan İrem; Yerci, Selçuk; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2017)
Germanium is a group IV element compatible with CMOS (Complementary metal oxide semiconductor) fabrication technology and advantageous over silicon by having smaller band gap and higher carrier mobility, which provide infrared photodetectors and high-speed transistors respectively. In addition, by having direct band gap, strained-Ge enables fabrication of infrared lasers. Finally, thanks to lattice-matching, Ge layers on Si can also be used as virtual substrates for the growth of III-V compounds on Si. In o...
