Measurements of jet charge with dijet events in pp collisions at root s=8 TeV
Sirunyan, A. M.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2017-10-01)
Jet charge is an estimator of the electric charge of a quark, antiquark, or gluon initiating a jet. It is based on the momentum-weighted sum of the electric charges of the jet constituents. Measurements of three charge observables of the leading jet in transverse momentum pT are performed with dijet events. The analysis is carried out with data collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC in proton-proton collisions at root s = 8 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb(-1). The results a...
Comparing transverse momentum balance of b jet pairs in pp and PbPb collisions at root s(NN)=5.02 TeV
Sirunyan, A. M.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2018-03-01)
The transverse momentum balance of pairs of back-to-back b quark jets in PbPb and pp collisions recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC is reported. The center-of-mass energy in both collision systems is 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair. Compared to the pp collision baseline, b quark jets have a larger imbalance in the most central PbPb collisions, as expected from the jet quenching effect. The data are also compared to the corresponding measurement with inclusive dijets. In the most central collisions, the imba...
Comparison of TOC concentrations by persulphate UV and high temperature catalytic oxidation techniques in the Marmara and Black Seas
Tuğrul, Süleyman (Elsevier BV, 1993-01-01)
Total organic carbon (TOC) concentrations were determined in the Marmara Sea and both oxic and anoxic waters of the Black Sea, using the Shimadzu high-temperature catalytic oxidation technique and the Technicon persulphate-UV oxidation method. The TOC values in the deep waters of the Marmara Sea ranged between 60 and 73 μ MC by the Shimadzu technique and from 40 to 50 μMC by the Technicon method. The TOC values obtained by both methods in the deep anoxic waters of the Black Sea varied between 105 and 130 μM...
Investigation of the preservice science teachers̕ views on science technology and society issues
Kahyaoğlu, Elvan; Çakıroğlu, Jale; Department of Secondary Science and Mathematics Education (2004)
The aim of this study is to investigate the views of preservice science teachers on science-technology-society, STS, issue. A total of 176 preservice science teachers participated in the study. A 26-item أViews on Science-Technology-Society (VOSTS)ؤ instrument, translated and adapted into Turkish, were utilized to assess participants̕ views on STS. The VOSTS (Aikenhead, Ryan and Fleming, 1989) is a pool of 114 empirically developed multiple-choice items with nine categories. In order to understand participa...
Study of double parton scattering using W+2-jet events in proton-proton collisions at root s=7 TeV
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2014-03-01)
Double parton scattering is investigated in proton-proton collisions at = 7 TeV where the final state includes a W boson, which decays into a muon and a neutrino, and two jets. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5 fb(-1), collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. Observables sensitive to double parton scattering are investigated after being corrected for detector effects and selection efficiencies. The fraction of W + 2-jet events due to double parton scattering is measured to be 0...
